COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State learned its seeds for the 10 Buckeyes scheduled to battle for league titles at the 2024 Big Ten Championship March 9-10 at the XFINITY Center in College Park, Maryland, when the conference office made the announcement Monday.
The Terps are hosting the event, the 110th Big Ten Wrestling Championships, for the first time.
The Buckeyes, who finished second in the 2024 league dual race with a 7-1 record, will have six Top 5 seeds when the event gets underway this weekend.Sophomore Jesse Mendez, one of three Buckeyes with previous experience in the conference championships, along with redshirt freshman Nick Feldman are both No. 2 seeds in the 141-pound and heavyweight brackets, respectively. Both finished with 7-1 records in Big Ten duals this season.
Mendez earned a No. 2 seed a year ago in his first league championship. He finished sixth overall.
Redshirt freshman Nic Bouzakis is the No. 3 seed at 133. True freshman Ryder Rogotzke is the No. 4 seed at 184 with the No. 5 seed going to redshirt senior Dylan D'Emilio (149) and true freshman Rocco Welsh (174).
D'Emilio has been in three previous conference tournaments. His No. 5 seed this year is the best of his career. He has an overall record of 8-6 in the event, twice as a No. 7 seed and once at No. 9. His best finish was fourth a year ago. He wrestled at 141 the last three years.
Redshirt junior Bryce Hepner is the No. 8 seed this year at 165. He wrestled at 157 as a No. 9 seed in 2022, his only other appearance in the league championships.
The Buckeyes have 57 individual Big Ten champions all-time to go with five Big Ten team titles.
All 14 conference schools will participate in the championships with the first-round and quarterfinal (10 a.m.), semifinal (7 p.m.) and wrestleback (10 a.m./5 p.m.) matches taking place during Sessions I and II Saturday. Action continues Sunday with consolation semifinals and seventh-place matches (Noon) getting underway during Session III and the first-, third- and fifth-place matches highlighting Session IV (4:30 p.m.).
For the fourth-consecutive year, the Big Ten Network and B1G+ will offer live linear and streaming coverage of all four sessions at the Big Ten Wrestling Championships. Linear coverage on the Big Ten Network is also available on the FOX Sports app.
