Bouzakis Named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week

Buckeyes travel to Penn State, Maryland this weekend
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nic Bouzakis, a redshirt junior at 125 pounds, was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes defeated No. 5 Iowa at the Covelli Center Feb. 6.
Ohio State (17-0, 6-0) trailed the Hawkeyes 10-9 prior to facing Iowa's Dean Peterson in the seventh bout of the match.Â
Peterson, ranked No. 6 nationally, fell behind quickly after Bouzakis, ranked No. 2, earned a quick seven points with a takedown and four-point nearfall. Peterson was not able to catch Bouzakis the rest of the way in a 9-5 win by decision for Bouzakis. The win put Ohio State up 13-9. The Buckeyes scored 24-unanswered points to win, 24-9.
Ohio State has earned five weekly Big Ten wrestling awards this season.Â
Ben Davino (133) and e'Than Birden (165) both own Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors while Bouzakis, Carson Kharchla (174) and Nick Feldman (HWT) have been named the league's player of the week.Â
Bouzakis is 12-0 this season with seven wins against ranked opponents.Â
Ohio State travels to take on No. 1 Penn State Friday (7 p.m./BTN) and will close out the dual season at Maryland Sunday (2 p.m./B1G+). Â
