Learn more about the goalie
Buckeye goalie Logan Terness has had hockey on his mind since day one. He grew up in a hockey household, with a father who played goalie and a family that loved the sport. His father was his role model and first got Terness into the game he now loves.
Being from Vancouver, Terness grew up a fan of the Vancouver Canucks. His favorite player when he was a child was Roberto Luongo, who played goalie for the Canucks from 2006-14. Terness shared, "It was a lot of fun to watch him play when I was younger."
Terness watches goalies currently playing in the NHL to help improve his own game. His two favorite players to study are Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens and Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators. On what he takes away from watching Saros, Terness said, "He and I are similar in our style of play and height, so I try to play with speed and a quick reaction time, like he does."
For the start of his time in youth hockey, Terness was not a goalie. It wasn't until he was 9 years old that he transitioned into the position. For AAA, he played for the Vancouver Northeast Chiefs for two years, before moving to the BCHL. He was with the Trail Smoke Eaters in the BCHL for two seasons before attending the University of Connecticut, where he spent two years before transferring to Ohio State.
Alongside hockey, Terness is majoring in sport industry. He explained it is quite difficult at times to manage both schoolwork and hockey, especially in tougher classes. Though it can be challenging, he said, "We have really good resources to be able to do both, even with our athletic schedule."
During his free time, Terness enjoys playing the guitar, a hobby he has been working on for four years. In the offseason, he also likes to spend time with his family and friends. He explained that while he spends time training during the summer, he will socialize afterwards with his friends from home.
Terness did not have the most typical path to becoming a college goalie, with forward as his position until age 9. From playing at another Division I school, to Ohio State, Terness has found the best fit for him. His transition to OSU has gone smoothly so far, and he is excited for what is to come.
