Event wraps up Sunday with two preliminary rounds and the men’s semis and finals
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Ohio State fencers are among the Top 10 after the first day of men's competition at the 2024 NCAA Fencing Championships in French Field House in Columbus, Ohio. Ohio State is in sixth place as a team heading into the final day.

The Sunday Schedule
In men's saber, first-year Buckeye Luca Fioretto dropped just two of his 15 bouts and stands in third place, with a +27 indicator.

In men's epee, Paul Veltrup ended day one in seventh place, as he was 10-5 (+12). The 2023 national runner-up is making his second NCAA appearance. Miles Weiss, in his first NCAA trip, posted nine victories (+4) through the first three rounds and is in 10th place.

In men's foil, Edriss Ndiaye, who is making a third straight NCAA appearance, won eight bouts (+2) and is in 11th place. Justin Vogler, in his first day at the national championships, is in 19th place after winning six bouts.

The Format
At the championships, fencers compete in a round-robin format of five-touch bouts, facing the other 23 fencers in their weapon. After round-robin, the Top 4 finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places and non-advancing fencers awarded a tie for third place. An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.

The Sunday Schedule
- Sunday starts with two preliminary rounds, with all three weapons starting at 9 a.m. in French Field House.
- The semifinals and finals will be held in St. John Arena beginning at 1:30 p.m. The six semifinal bouts will be fenced on one strip, sequentially in order of epee, foil, sabre. Finals bouts will follow the semifinals, in the same order.
- The awards ceremony for the men's individual champions and Top 8 finishers and the Top 3 teams will follow the finals.
