Buckeyes Drop 2-1 Game to Nittany Lions

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the final game of the regular season, the Ohio State men's hockey team fell to Penn State, 2-1, Saturday in Value City Arena. Ohio State led 1-0 after the first period but the Nittany Lions tallied twice on the power play in the second to take the lead and neither team scored the rest of the way.

The postseason starts next week with Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal series. No. 7 seed Ohio State will play at No. 2 Wisconsin in a best-of-three series Friday through Sunday.

How it Happened
- Buckeye freshman Sam Deckhut scored at 7:06 of the first to open the scoring. He took a pass from Mason Klee and drove the net, scoring top shelf from in close. Theo Wallberg had the second helper on the goal, his 18th assist of the season. Deckhut has three goals on the year, all in the last four games.
- Shots were 10-7 in favor of Ohio State in the first.
- In the second, Penn State's Dane Dowiak scored on the power play at 7:27 to tie the game and at 15:54 to put the Nittany Lions in the lead.
- PSU had 15 shots in the middle period, limiting Ohio State to six.
- Neither team scored in the third, with Penn State ahead in shots, 13-10. Ohio State pulled its goalie with 2:18 remaining and attempted three shots, but a late penalty put PSU on the power play to close out the game.
- The Buckeyes were outshot, 35-26. Kristoffer Eberly made 33 saves in 58:08 for Ohio State. The Buckeyes blocked 12 shots, led by Damien Carfagna and Theo Wallberg with three each and John Larkin and Scooter Brickey with two.
- Ohio State was unable to score on two power play chances and Penn State was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.
