Buckeyes Rally for Win over Georgia at ITA Indoors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With four singles wins, the Ohio State women's tennis team came from behind to defeat No. 7 seed Georgia, 4-3, in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Friday in Seattle. Ohio State, now 6-1, advances to the quarterfinals, where it will take on No. 2 seed Stanford at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point and the first singles match vs. the Bulldogs (2-3). Irina Cantos Siemers put Ohio State on the board but Georgia answered for a 3-1 match. It was all Buckeyes from there, as Luciana Perry, Shelly Bereznyak and Sydni Ratliff all notched wins for the team victory. The four Buckeye singles wins were all in straight sets.

How it Happened
- Georgia dropped just one game on courts one and two in doubles for a 1-0 lead. The court three match was abandoned at 4-all.
- The Bulldogs posted a straight-set win on court four to push the lead to 2-0.
- Captain Irina Cantos Siemers, ranked 14th, got the Buckeyes on the board, as she dispatched No. 48 Alexandra Vecic, 6-1, 6-4. The Buckeye broke for a 5-4 lead in the second set and served it out.
- Georgia took court six in two sets for a 3-1 advantage.
- On court three, Ohio State freshman Luciana Perry, ranked 73rd, was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over No. 66 Mell Reasco. In the second set, Perry was down a break, 3-4, but won the final three games to draw the Buckeyes within one.
- Shelly Bereznyak tied the match, as she downed No. 111 Mai Nirundorn, 6-2, 6-3. The Buckeye fought back from down a break at 2-3 to win the final four games for the victory.
- No. 123 Sydni Ratliff clinched the team win, as she defeated No. 38 Dasha Vidmanova, 7-6 (3), 6-2, on court two. She took control in the first set tiebreak, winning 7-3, and carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Bulldog won the next two games, but Ratliff closed it out.
- Cantos Siemers is first for the Buckeyes with a 6-0 dual mark this spring. Ratliff is 4-1, with Bereznyak 4-2 and Perry 3-1.
- This was just the second time this season the Buckeyes dropped the doubles point. They also came back to win at Oklahoma, 4-3, after losing the doubles point.
