COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's tennis team fell to No. 2 seed Stanford, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship Saturday in Seattle. The Buckeyes dropped the doubles point and the first singles match. Irina Cantos Siemers picked up a singles win for Ohio State but Stanford took the next two matches to advance to the semifinals.

Ohio State (6-2) had its five-match winning streak end with the loss to the Cardinal (7-0). The Buckeyes, who were ranked 12th in the last ITA poll, will play in a consolation match Sunday. Tournament Central (schedule/video/scoring links)

How it Happened

Stanford took a 1-0 lead, winning the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. In a matchup of ranked teams on court one, No. 24 Sydni Ratliff and Luciana Perry of Ohio State were on serve 5-4 vs. No. 56 Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina when the match was abandoned.
The Cardinal moved ahead 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two to begin singles.
Buckeye captain and No. 14-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers put Ohio State on the board, as she topped No. 56 Blake, 6-1, 6-2.
The matches on courts three and four both went to a first-set tiebreak, won by the Cardinal.
On court three, Buckeye freshman Perry faced No. 75 Alexandra Yepifanova. The Cardinal jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Perry was able to draw within 5-3 but Yepifanova closed it out 6-3 to put Stanford up 3-1.
The court four match was between No. 55 Alexis Blokhina and Buckeye freshman Teah Chavez. In the second set, Chavez held an early lead but the Cardinal rallied to win 7-5 to clinch the team victory.
Buckeye Shelly Bereznyak was in a tiebreak in the second set after dropping the first on court five when the match was clinched. On court six, Buckeye freshman Audrey Spencer rallied with a second-set win to force a third set. She was down in the third when play was abandoned.
Cantos Siemers is 7-0 in dual matches this year to lead the Buckeyes, all on court one.
