
Buckeyes Close Regular Season with Northwestern Duals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing program wrapped up the regular season with the Northwestern Duals Saturday and Sunday in Evanston, Ill. The Buckeye men were 6-1 in the event over the two days, with the women 5-5.

In all dual matches, Ohio State's No. 4-ranked men were 29-7 during the regular season. The No. 13Â women were 21-17.

Saturday's Action
The Buckeye women were 4-1, as they topped Wayne State and Lawrence 22-5, downed Detroit Mercy 26-1 and defeated Incarnate Word 25-2. No. 14 Stanford clipped the Buckeyes, 14-13. For the women, epee was perfect on the day, with foil and saber both 4-1.
Dasha Myroniuk posted an 8-1 record Saturday to lead the foil squad, while Claire Teresa Galavotti was 7-3. Yeva Mazur was perfect in nine epee matches and Karina Dyner was 7-2, with Catherine Zhou 6-1 and Julia Semikin 5-2. In saber, Arlow Wiggers notched a 10-2 mark and Maria Alexe and Katherine Larimer were both 9-3.Â

The men posted a 16-11 win over Stanford in their first action of the day, followed by victories over Wayne State (22-5) and Detroit Mercy (24-3). All three weapon squads were undefeated.
Diego Cervantes led foil with a 5-0 record, Miles Weiss (4-2), Max Rodney (4-3) and Gabriel Feinberg (4-0) paced epee with four wins each and Avin Rai was first for saber with a 5-1 ledger.Â

Sunday in Evanston
On day two, the men dropped just one match, falling to Boston College, 14-13. The Buckeyes topped Lawrence (22-5), UCSD (14-13) and Incarnate Word (22-5). Foil and epee were both 4-0 on the day, with saber 3-1.

Justin Vogler was 8-0 to lead foil and all Buckeye men, with Diego Cervantes 7-1 in foil. Maxwell Rodney, Nowell Gibson and Kinley Lavenstein each had six wins to pace epee. In saber, Luca Fioretto, Vincent Haney and Kelly Liu each notched four victories to lead the squad.

The women were 1-4 on the day, falling to three top 10 teams – No. 7 Cornell (15-12), No. 8 Northwestern (16-11) and No. 9 Temple (15-12). Ohio State also dropped a 14-13 decision to Boston College and posted a 17-10 win over UCSD.

The foil squad was 4-1, with the lone loss to Northwestern. Epee was 2-3, with two of the three losses by a 5-4 score, and saber was 1-4, topping Boston College.

Schedule Ahead Highlighted by CCFC and NCAA Championships in Columbus
- Ohio State will host the Central Collegiate Fencing Championships Feb. 24-25 in French Field House in Columbus. Admission and parking will be free for the championships.
