Weekly highlight of the student-athletes behind the major moments in Ohio State Athletics
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom, or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Here are this week's Buckeye Spotlight student-athletes:
Landon Beidelschies | Baseball | So. | Canfield, Ohio
- Beidelschies had a phenomenal outing on the mound in the Buckeyes' 11-4 victory over Arizona State on Feb. 22.
- Beidelschies (1-1) earned the win, striking out a career-high seven batters in a career-best 7.0 innings pitched.
- He allowed just one run on three hits and did not give up any walks.
- On the season, Beidelschies has fanned 13 in 11.0 innings pitched and is holding opponents to a .154 batting average.
- Bonner knocked down a three-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining to lift the Buckeyes to a 60-57 victory at Michigan State on Sunday
- That was one of his two three-pointers on the day as he finished with six points, one rebound and one steal.
- The team usually plays well when Bonner plays well. The Buckeyes are 10-2 this season when Bonner makes a three-pointer.
- The Shaker Heights, Ohio, native will celebrate Senior Day with his family this Sunday vs. Michigan.
- Deckhut, a freshman forward, notched his first two career goals to help Ohio State upset then-No. 4 Michigan State last Friday in East Lansing. The win was the Buckeyes' third straight over a No. 4-ranked team.
- His first goal tied the game at one and his second of the night stood as the gamewinner as Ohio State posted a 6-2 road win.
- The rookie has five points on the year, with three assists along with his two goals.
- Deckhut and the Buckeyes will close out the regular season with two home games vs. Penn State this weekend.
- Heckman hit a team-high .400 for Ohio State last weekend in five games at the Arizona State/Grand Canyon Invite.
- She had multiple hits in two games, highlighted by a 2-for-3 showing in a 10-0 win over New Mexico State that included a two-run double.
- Heckman also drove in a run against Arizona State and had hits in games vs. Grand Canyon and Idaho State.
- For the season, the senior outfielder is batting .455 with a home run, three doubles and six RBI. She's currently on a season-high four-game hitting streak.
- Her batting average is sixth-best in the Big Ten among players with 20 or more at-bats so far this season.
- Louis, a freshman, won the Big Ten Indoor Championship in the 400m this past weekend, running a personal-best 45.89 in the finals to move into fourth in program history in the event. He also ran the fastest time (46.17) in the prelims, which was then a PR for him.
- Louis also anchored the men's 4x400m relay that finished in the runner-up spot with a season-best time of 3:07.09.
- Louis earned a spot on the All-Big Ten First Team.
- At the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference individual championships in Columbus Sunday, Myroniuk won her second straight conference women's foil title.
The No. 1 seed entering the Top 8 after an 11-0 record in pools, she posted 15-6 and 15-7 wins before a 15-7 victory in the final. - Myroniuk was 7-1 in the conference team event Saturday as the Buckeye women took second. She and the foil squad won the Buckeyes' third consecutive foil crown.
- Next up for Myroniuk and the Buckeyes are the NCAA Regional Championships March 9 in Detroit before Ohio State hosts the 2024 NCAA Championships March 21-24 in French Field House and St. John Arena. Myroniuk earned Second Team All-America honors at last year's national championships.
- Ndiaye took home the gold medal in the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference individual championships Sunday. In the Top 8 tableau that included seven Buckeyes, Ndiaye, who was 11-0 and the top seed after pools, prevailed. He defeated his teammate Mitchell Huth in the final, 15-6.
- Saturday, Ndiaye was 4-0 to help the Buckeye men to the CCFC team and foil championships. The men have captured the outright CCFC title all four years of the conference and have four foil squad titles.
- Ndiaye and the Buckeyes will head to the NCAA Regional Championships March 9 in Detroit before Ohio State hosts the 2024 NCAA Championships March 21-24 in French Field House and St. John Arena. Ndiaye is a two-time NCAA qualifier and was an Honorable Mention All-American in 2023.
- The No. 8 women's swimming and diving team placed second at the Big Ten Championships, just narrowly missing a fifth-consecutive conference title.
- The Buckeyes won seven events and totaled 16 medals over four days of competition.
- Ohio State produced Big Ten Champions in the 200 medley relay (Nyah Funderburke, Hannah Bach, Katherine Zenick, Teresa Ivan), 50 free (Ivan), 1-meter dive (Lena Hentschel), 400 medley relay (Funderburke, Bach, Morgan Kraus, Amy Fulmer), 100 fly (Zenick), 100 breast (Bach) and 100 free (Fulmer).
- Taylor, a graduate guard, led the Buckeyes to a pair of wins last week as they clinched the top seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Taylor averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 steals, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from both the floor and three-point range. She was named ESPN Player of the Week and to the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll.
- She began the week at Penn State with 16 points to surpass 1,500 career points, and added season highs in assists (7), steals (7) and three-pointers made (4). Taylor was 4-of-7 (.571) from long range and 6-of-12 (.500) from the floor against the Nittany Lions. In Sunday's win against Maryland, Taylor matched her season-high 20 points and added five rebounds, three steals and two assists. She was 7-of-14 (.500) from the floor and added a trio of triples.
- This season, Taylor leads the Buckeyes with 60 steals, is second with 88 assists and is averaging 10.2 points per game.
- Young was a force in the middle for the Buckeyes in three wins last week.
- He helped the Buckeyes improve to 13-3 overall and 7-1 in the MIVA with a pair of wins over Queens and another against Purdue Fort Wayne.
- Young hit .558 in a pair of 3-0 wins over the Royals and one against the Mastodons. He finished the week with 26 kills on 37 swings with just five errors.
- He also controlled the center of the net with 17 blocks. Young is leading the MIVA in hitting percentage at .486 and is fourth in blocks (.80).
- The Buckeyes are home this week against Lewis Thursday (6 p.m.) and Loyola Chicago Saturday (4 p.m.).
