Buckeyes Down No. 4 Badgers, Complete Sweep

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team downed No. 4 Wisconsin, 3-1, Saturday to wrap up a sweep of the Badgers. The Buckeyes (11-15-4, 3-15-2 B1G) posted a 3-2 overtime win vs. Wisconsin (22-8-2, 13-6-1 B1G) Friday.

Ohio State never trailed in the series finale. Cam Thiesing and Davis Burnside scored in less than a minute late in the first for a 2-0 Ohio State lead. UW drew within one with a power play goal in the second, but the Buckeyes responded less than three minutes later on a Joe Dunlap goal and led 3-1 through two periods. Neither team scored in the third, with Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly making 12 saves. Scooter Brickey had two assists for the second night in a row and Dunlap added an assist for a two-point night.

How it Happened
- The Badgers appeared to take a lead less than seven minutes into the game but an Ohio State challenge for offside was successful and the goal was overturned.
- Two goals in 48 seconds put the Buckeyes ahead. Cam Thiesing scored on a backhand in front of a loose puck at 16:16, assisted by Joe Dunlap and Scooter Brickey.
- Davis Burnside followed with a goal at 17:04. Jake Dunlap passed a puck in the slot to Burnside in the faceoff circle and he one-timed a shot for his fifth goal of the year.
- Shots were 9-7 in favor of the Buckeyes in the first 20 minutes and the Badgers had the only power play.
- Wisconsin's David Silye made it a one-goal game at 7:59 of the second period with a power play goal.
- At 10:15 Joe Dunlap answered, putting in the rebound of a shot by Scooter Brickey.
- Each team had one power play chance in the middle stanza and the Buckeyes put 10 shots on net in the period, with Wisconsin getting nine on net.
- Joe Dunlap put a second shot in the net less than five minutes into the third. The Badgers challenged for a missed hand pass and the goal was waived off after review.
- Wisconsin pulled its goalie for the extra attacker with more than three minutes remaining. Two saves and a shot block helped close out the win.
- The Badgers had 12 shots in the third period, with the Buckeyes notching 10.
- For the game, the Buckeyes had the edge in shots, 29-28. Kristoffer Eberly played all 60 minutes for Ohio State, with 27 saves.
- Led by four blocks from forward Patrick Guzzo, the Buckeyes had 13 shot blocks in the game. Mason Klee and Brent Johnson each had three in the game.
- Ohio State had one power play chance in the contest and the Badgers were 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
- Brickey had two assists in each game vs. the Badgers and now has six two-assist games in his career. He is second on the squad with 22 points and fourth with 13 assists.
- Burnside had a goal in both games vs. Wisconsin. He has six on the year and is third with 21 points.
- Joe Dunlap marked his eighth career multiple-point game with two points on a goal and an assist.
- Thiesing is third on the team with eight goals this season.
- The Buckeyes will head to Michigan State for a series next weekend. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. B1G+ will stream both games and they will be on Ohio State Radio.Â
- Ohio State will close the regular season with two games vs. Penn State in Columbus March 1-2. The Buckeye senior class will be recognized before game two vs. the Nittany Lions. Puck drop is set for 6 p.m. in game one and 5 p.m. in game two.
