Ohio State Wins 82-57 in 2024 Home Finale Against Grand Valley State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11/8 Ohio State women's basketball team (11-0, 1-0 B1G) beat Grand Valley State (11-1, 2-0 GLIAC) by an 82-57 margin in Tuesday's matinee. This was the final home game of the calendar year for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State used an early 13-0 run to propel itself to a 31-10 lead after the first quarter. The Buckeyes allowed only one point in the final six minutes of the first half and took a 44-18 lead into the locker room. Grand Valley State had the 25-20 advantage in the third quarter as Ohio State led by a 64-43 mark after 30 minutes. The Buckeyes won the fourth quarter 18-14 and the game 82-57.
Cotie McMahon was the first in the game to reach double figures and finished with 21 points. Chance Gray also recorded a 20-point performance with 23 points. Eboni Walker chipped in a season-high eight points off the bench and Madison Greene tied her season-high eight points. Ajae Petty led all players with eight rebounds.
How it Happened
McMahon opened the game's scoring with back-to-back layups and the Buckeyes used a 10-0 run after Grand Valley State's first points to build a 14-2 lead just three minutes into the game. The Buckeye defense did not allow more than two GVSU points in a row during the quarter as the OSU offense built a 31-10 lead after 10 minutes.
Taylor Thierry began the second quarter with a layup and the Buckeyes held a 35-17 lead midway through the quarter. Ohio State's defense allowed only one point in the final six minutes of the quarter and increased the lead to 44-18 going into the locker room. Ava Watson made a buzzer-beating three-pointer to send the teams to half.
Gray and McMahon both had a bucket to start the third quarter before Grand Valley State got on the board with a triple. The Lakers put together their longest run of the game at 7-0 and the Buckeyes held a 59-33 lead midway through the quarter. Grand Valley State capped scoring in the third quarter as Ohio State held a 64-43 lead.
Ajae Petty started the fourth quarter with a three-point play and Gray followed with a pair of free throws as the Buckeyes led by a 69-43 margin with eight minutes remaining. The teams alternated scoring for the majority of the quarter and scoring was capped at 82-57 on a Greene layup.
