COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11/8 Ohio State women's basketball team (9-0, 1-0 B1G) beat Ball State (6-4) by an 80-48 margin on Tuesday evening on pride night.
Ohio State scored the first seven points and final six points of the opening quarter to build a 24-8 lead after 10 minutes. The Buckeyes extended their lead to 38-20 going into the locker room. Ohio State outscored Ball State 31-16 in the third quarter to lead 69-36 with 10 minutes to play. Fourth quarter was lower scoring for both teams as the game wrapped up with an 80-48 score.
Chance Gray was the first in the game to reach double figures, doing so early in the third quarter and finishing with 21 points. Taylor Thierry (12), Ajae Petty (10) and Ava Watson (15) joined Gray in double figures as all nine Buckeyes who played also scored.
How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first seven points of the game in less than two minutes on a pair of Taylor Thierry baskets and a Gray three-pointer. The Buckeyes put together a second 7-0 run and led by a 16-4 margin midway through the quarter. Ohio State scored the final six points of the quarter to lead 24-8 after 10 minutes of play.
Ball State opened scoring in the second quarter and the teams alternated baskets to begin the quarter. Four Buckeye points gave OSU a 32-15 lead going into the media timeout. Ohio State led by a 38-20 margin going into the locker room after each team made a three-pointer to end the first half.
The Cardinals scored first in the third quarter and the teams traded baskets before back-to-back Buckeye baskets prompted a Ball State timeout with Ohio State ahead 47-26. OSU extended its run to 11-0 to push the lead to 54-26 with 3:34 to play in the third. The Buckeyes scored five points in the final 15 seconds of the quarter to take a 69-36 lead after 30 minutes of play.
After BSU opened the final quarter with a triple, OSU scored the next seven points and led by a 76-42 margin midway through the quarter. Ball State wrapped up scoring as Ohio State won by an 80-48 margin.
