COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State redshirt-sophomore Preston Stearns was named the Big Ten Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts last weekend at the Fighting Irish Mini Duals.
Stearns went a combined 8-0 over the weekend as he and partner Brandon Carpico won four mini duals to take the title. The pair won all four of their doubles matches to open each of the duals on the right foot. He then won all four of his singles matches, including a 1-6, 6-4, 10-3 comeback victory over Louisville's Kosuke Nakanishi in the championship clinching match. Stearns dropped just one set in his four singles matches.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native earns his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor. He is the second Buckeye to earn the award this season as Aidan Kim earned the distinction on Oct. 2 after reaching the semifinals of the ITA All-American Championship.
