Ohio State Wins Four-Setter in East Lansing

The Buckeyes defeated the Spartans in four sets on Sunday afternoon after surrendering the first set.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (10-12, 3-9 B1G) beat Michigan State (8-15, 1-11 B1G) in four sets (23-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-18) on Sunday afternoon in East Lansing.
The first set was back-and-forth, including a 20-minute delay due to a horn malfunction, before Michigan State earned a 25-23 set win. The second set was tight throughout and Ohio State evened the match by scoring the final five points of the set to earn a 26-24 set win. The Buckeyes held off a late Spartans push in the third set to earn a 25-22 set win. Ohio State did not trail in the fourth set, sealing the match with a 25-18 set win.
Emily Londot continued her streak of recording at least 10 kills in every match this season as she led the Buckeyes with 17 kills and added 14 digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Mia Tuman earned her fifth double-double of the season with 44 assists and 13 digs. Emmi Sellman joined Londot with double-figure kills, totaling 14 kills in the match. Olivia Hasbrook recorded her 20th match of the season with 10+ digs as she had 17 digs today. Reese Wuebker matched her career-high seven kills.
How it Happened
Mia Tuman opened scoring with a kill and the Buckeyes used a 3-0 run to build an early 7-3 lead. The Spartans battled back to tie the set at nine and took their first lead of the day at 10-9. Ohio State called timeout trailing 12-9 after a 5-0 Michigan State run. The Buckeyes tied the match at 12 and took the lead back at 14-13. After being tied at 17, OSU scored back-to-back points to force an MSU timeout. Michigan State used a 3-0 run to take a 23-22 lead and prompt an Ohio State timeout. After a 20-minute delay because of a horn malfunction, MSU won the set by a 25-23 margin.
The Spartans scored first in the second set and used an early 4-0 run to take a 7-5 lead. The Buckeyes called timeout trailing 10-6. Ohio State strung together five unanswered points to take a 12-11 lead and force a Michigan State timeout. The teams traded one and two points at a time and the Buckeyes scored back-to-back points to take a 20-18 lead and prompt a second Spartans timeout. Michigan State scored the next four points out of the timeout, amidst an unsuccessful Ohio State challenge, to take a 22-20 lead and prompt a second OSU timeout. After trailing 24-21, the Buckeyes scored the final five points of the set to win by a 26-24 margin.

Sellman recorded her 10th kill of the match out of the timeout and sealed a 25-22 set win with her 11th kill.

The Spartans got within one on multiple occasions but OSU strung together a 3-0 run to increase the lead to 12-8 and force an MSU timeout. The Spartans called a second timeout after the Buckeyes increased their lead to 18-11. Ohio State led by as many as eight points at 19-11 before Michigan State scored the next pair. The Buckeyes closed a 25-18 set win on a Spartan service error.
