Ohio State Defeats Utah State in Dayton Beach Classic Finale

The Buckeyes had four double-figure scorers in the victory against former OSU assistant coach, Wesley Brooks.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The No. 11/9 Ohio State women's basketball team (7-0) beat Utah State (1-6) by an 87-51 margin on Friday in its final game at the Daytona Beach Classic.
Ohio State got off to a quick start by scoring the game's first 11 points and led by a 22-13 margin after 10 minutes. The Buckeyes kicked it up a notch in the second quarter with a 21-0 run to increase their lead to 45-18 going into the locker room. OSU scored 23 points again in the third quarter and held a 68-35 lead after 30 minutes. A 19-16 fourth quarter wrapped up a 87-51 victory for the Buckeyes.
Chance Gray scored 10 points in the first half on her way to 17 total. Jaloni Cambridge (13), Ajae Petty (17) and Elsa Lemmilä (11) joined Gray in double figures. Petty was one rebound shy of a double-double.
How it Happened
Ohio State started quickly by scoring the first 11 points of the game, including three baskets from Petty. Utah State scored the next seven points before the teams alternated scoring. Lemmilä ended the quarter's scoring with a fastbreak layup as the Buckeyes held the 22-13 lead.
After Utah State opened the second quarter with a jumper, Ohio State scored the next 12 points to increase its lead to 34-15 with 6:19 remaining in the quarter. The Buckeyes extended their run to 21-0 and lead to 43-15 with 2:43 to play before halftime. OSU's defense allowed only two baskets and five points in the second quarter, taking a 45-18 lead going into the locker room.
Ohio State used an extended 11-2 run to increase its lead to 58-23 with 6:28 remaining in the third quarter. Utah State strung together its longest run of the game in response, scoring the next nine points and cutting its deficit to 58-32. The Buckeyes had the final eight points of the quarter to take a 68-35 lead into the final frame.
J. Cambridge had a couple quick steals to begin the fourth quarter and the Buckeyes led by a 72-35 margin with 8:17 to play. Madison Greene scored four-straight points on the floor as part of a 7-0 OSU run to lead by an 83-41 margin with 4:27 remaining. Ava Watson scored the final Buckeye points in a 87-51 win.

- This is the fourth-consecutive game that the Buckeyes have totaled 10 or more steals and the sixth time this season. Ohio State finished with a season-high 22 steals – its first 20 or more steal game since facing Grand Valley State on Dec. 15, 2023.
- OSU has forced at least 20 turnovers in every game this season, forcing 20 first-half Aggie turnovers on the way to 36 total turnovers forced. This is the most turnovers OSU has forced this season.
