
Ohio State Falls to Maryland in Four Sets on Friday

The Buckeyes battled on Friday night but fell in their first match of a four-match homestand.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (11-14, 4-11 B1G) fell to Maryland (13-13, 4-11 B1G) in four sets (22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 21-25) on Friday evening in the Our Honor Defend match.
Maryland used a 5-0 run midway through the first set to take a narrow lead and earn a 25-22 set win. The Terrapins took the lead early in the second set and did not relinquish it on their way to a 25-18 set win. Ohio State scored the final eight points of the third set to win by a 25-18 margin. The fourth set was the closest of the match with 10 ties and six lead changes before Maryland scored the final three points to close the match with a 25-21 set win.
Emily Londot was the first in the match to record 10+ kills and digs, finishing with 15 kills and 14 digs for her 15th double-double of the season. Mia Tuman earned her seventh double-double with 44 assists and 14 digs. Olivia Hasbrook finished with 15 digs as the Buckeyes had three with 10+ digs for the ninth time this season. Rylee Rader (10) joined Londot with 10+ kills of her own, hitting .440 as she had 25 attacks without an error.
How it Happened
Maryland scored the first two points of the match and the set was tight early with seven ties by the time the teams hit 10. Ohio State scored the next two points and led by as many as three points at 14-11 but Maryland used a 5-0 run to take an 18-15 lead out of the media timeout, prompting a Buckeye timeout. OSU scored three of the next four points to get within one at 19-18. The teams alternated scoring and the Terps stayed one or two points ahead of the Buckeyes. Maryland scored the final two points of the set to earn a 25-22 set win.
The Terrapins opened scoring in the second set and used a pair of 3-0 runs to build an early 8-4 lead. Maryland held a 15-10 advantage at the media timeout. The Terps strung together four unanswered points to increase their lead to 20-13 and ended the set on a 5-2 run to win the set by a 25-18 margin.
Maryland recorded the first point of the third set, but Ohio State immediately answered. The Buckeyes used a 3-0 run to build a 7-5 lead and a 4-0 run amidst a pair of Terrapins timeouts to increase the lead to 14-8. The Terps used a 3-0 run of their own to cut their deficit to two points at 16-14 and prompt an OSU timeout. Maryland extended its run to 6-0 to take its first lead since 5-4 at 17-16 but Ohio State tied the set at 17. The Terrapins took an 18-17 lead before the Buckeyes scored the final eight points of the set to win by a 25-18 margin.
The Terps struck first in the fourth set as well and the teams traded pairs of points and the lead early. The Buckeyes used a 5-1 run to take an 11-7 lead and force a Maryland timeout. The Terrapins scored four unanswered points to tie the set at 12 and prompt a Buckeye timeout. Maryland used a 3-0 run to take a 15-13 lead and back-to-back Ohio State points tied the set again at 17. The next three points belonged to the Terps as they took a 20-17 lead, prompting an OSU timeout. The Buckeyes answered with the next three points to tie the set at 20. Maryland used a late challenge to take a 23-21 lead instead of having the score tied at 22. The Terrapins scored the final two points to end the match with a 25-21 set win.
