No. 1 Ohio State Defeats Washington, Advances to League Title Match

The Buckeyes will face Michigan for the 2024 Big Ten Tournament Championship Nov. 17 in Columbus

The Buckeyes, ranked No. 1 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll, will return to Columbus to face No. 7 seed Michigan next Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the 2024 Big Ten Tournament title. Match time is set for 3 p.m. with the Big Ten Network providing the national broadcast. Admission and parking are free.

The Wolverines advanced to the title match with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks over UCLA after a double overtime scoreless draw.

In the conference tournament, Ohio State has earned three previous league tournament championships (2000-07-09). The last time Ohio State played host to the conference tournament championship match was in 2015 when the No. 1 seed Buckeyes fell to No. 3 Maryland, 2-0. Â

During the regular season, Ohio State defeated the Wolverines, 6-3, in Ann Arbor Oct. 4. Â

How it Happened
There was no score in the opening 45 minutes with neither team getting a shot on net.

The Buckeyes got on the board first when Parker Grinstead scored on a penalty kick in the 59' after freshman David Ajagbe was fouled in the box.

Grinstead quickly made it 2-0 Buckeyes when he gathered a pass right out front, whirled and scored his second of the night in the 60'. Luciano Pechota and Anthony Samways were credited with assists.

For the season, Grinstead has five goals and now has 13 for his Ohio State career. Pechota has five assists on the year and nine for his career. Samways has four this season and 14 as a Buckeye.

Ohio State went up 3-0 on a Siggi Magnusson goal, his third career score, from a Thomas Gilej assist, his first career helper. Marko Borkovic started the play off from a set piece to garner an assist as well. It was his fifth assist this season and 11th of his career. Â
