COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will host in-state foe Youngstown State on Monday evening inside the Schottenstein Center for the home opener of the 2024-25 season. The game will tipoff at 6 p.m. and will be televised on BTN. Connor Onion and Ohio State legend Joey Lane will call the action.
- This will be the sixth all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and Penguins. The previous five meetings have all been in Columbus and Ohio State has won all five by an average of over 32 points per game.
- The most recent meeting came on Dec. 18, 2018, as Ohio State claimed a 75-56 victory behind 31 points from center Kaleb Wesson.
- All-time, Ohio State is 242-80 (.752) against in-state opponents and has won 32 of the last 33 regular season games against in-state foes.
- The Buckeyes had one of the most impressive win on opening night, knocking-off No. 19 Texas 80-72 in the Hall of Fame Series event in Las Vegas. The Buckeyes were 14-of-28 from long range in the win.
- Junior point guard Bruce Thornton scored the team’s final nine points and led the Buckeyes with 20 points and five assists.
- Freshman John Mobley Jr., was a perfect 4-of-4 from long range, becoming the first freshman ever to make four or more three-pointers without a miss against a ranked team in their collegiate debut.
- Micah Parrish also had quite the Ohio State debut, scoring 17 points, grabbing six rebounds and dishing-out a career-high five assists.
- Head coach Jake Diebler, who is in his first full season as head coach, already has a pair of wins against ranked teams. In addition to the win over Texas last week, he led the team to a win over No. 2 Purdue in his first game as interim head coach last season.
- Ohio State has nine newcomers this season, including five transfers. Parrish, who transferred from San Diego State, is one of the most veteran players in the country this season. He is in the Top 5 in terms of games played among active players with 136.
- Youngstown State claimed an 80-60 victory on Saturday evening at Chicago State and come into Monday’s game at 1-0. Nico Galette led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds. Head coach Ethan Faulkner is similar to Diebler in that he is in year six with the program and his first as head coach.
