
Ohio State Sweeps Northwestern for First Big Ten Victory

The Buckeyes earned their fourth sweep victory of the season on Thursday night in Evanston.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (8-7, 1-4 B1G) swept (25-23, 25-16, 26-24) Northwestern (3-10, 1-4 B1G) on Thursday night in Evanston to earn its first conference victory of the season.

Northwestern got off to a quick start and also had a late run, but Ohio State won by a 25-23 margin in the first set by scoring the final four points. Ohio State used runs of 4-0 and 5-0 in the second set to cruise to a 25-16 set win. The Buckeyes sealed the sweep with a 26-24 set win in the third after a late push by the Wildcats.

Emmi Sellman was the first in the match to reach 10 kills, doing so for the first time in her career and totaling 13 kills on the night. Emily Londot has totaled at least 10 kills in every match this season, finishing with a match-high 15 kills tonight. Olivia Hasbrook recorded at least 10 digs for the 14th time this season, totaling a team-high 12 digs. Kamiah Gibson recorded her first double-double of the season with 31 assists and a season-high 10 digs. Reese Wuebker recorded a career-high three aces.

Ohio State opened scoring on a kill from Emmi Sellman but called timeout after a 6-0 Northwestern run gave the Wildcats an 8-3 lead. The Buckeyes strung together a 6-0 run of their own to take a 12-11 lead. The set was tied from points 11 through 16 before OSU scored three-unanswered points to take a 19-16 lead and force a Northwestern timeout. NU scored the next three points to tie the set at 19 and went on an extended 7-2 to prompt an OSU timeout with the Buckeyes trailing 23-21. The Buckeyes scored the final four points of the set to cap a 25-23 set win on Hasbrook's second ace of the match.

Ohio State put together a 5-0 run to extend its lead to 17-8 on a block from Londot and Rylee Rader and prompt a second Northwestern timeout. The Buckeyes led by as many as 12 points at 23-11 and wrapped up a 25-16 set win on Wuebker's third ace of the match.

Northwestern battled back to tie the set at seven before the Buckeyes regained the lead. A 4-1 OSU run gave the Buckeyes a 13-10 lead on an ace from Kaitlyn Hoffman, forcing a Northwestern timeout. The Wildcats trimmed the Buckeyes' lead to one at 18-17 to prompt an OSU timeout. Ohio State scored three of the next four points to extend its lead to 21-18, forcing a NU timeout. The Wildcats used a 3-0 run to trim the OSU lead to 23-22 as it was the Buckeyes' turn to call timeout. An ace from Londot sealed a 26-24 set win and the sweep.

Ohio State hosts Michigan on Sunday for a 1 p.m. ET match on B1G+. The Buckeyes will be playing in the Schottenstein Center for the first time in program history and ask fans to wear red to 'Scarlet Out the Schott'.
