COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. 'Buckeye Spotlight' recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.    Â
Grace Fan | Fencing | Fr. | Dublin, OhioÂ
- Fan had an outstanding weekend in her first collegiate events. Â
- At the OSU Open Saturday, Fan claimed the women's sabre gold medal, winning the final bout by one touch. The No. 10 seed coming out of pools, she had two 15-4 victories before a 15-7 win in the quarterfinals and a 15-8 victory in the semis. Â
- Fan was one of five Buckeyes to claim gold, with 17 posting a Top 3 finish. Â
- Sunday in the OSU Duals, Fan was 9-2, helping the Buckeye women go 5-0 on the day, with the sabre squad also 5-0. Â
Aidan Kim | Men's Tennis | So. | Milford, Mich.Â
- Kim made his Buckeye debut by going 6-1 last week at the ITA All-American Championships and reaching the singles semifinals.Â
- He made his way through qualifying and by virtue of advancing to the main draw quarterfinals, earned a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship later this fall.Â
- Five of his wins came over ranked opponents.Â
- Kim also joined doubles partner Alexander Bernard at the championships and recorded a doubles win.Â
Siggi Magnusson | Men's Soccer | Gr. | Vestmannaeyjar, IcelandÂ
- Magnusson scored his second career goal in a 2-all draw vs. Indiana. Â
- The score, off a header from an Anthony Samways cross, also was his second this season. Â
- Magnusson led the Ohio State defense against the Hoosiers to help Buckeyes remain undefeated (7-0-2). Â
- The Buckeyes are off to the best start in program history.
Samuel Rightler | Fencing | So. | Plain City, OhioÂ
- Rightler kicked off the season with a runner-up finish in men's sabre at the OSU Open Saturday. After a 15-10 win in the semifinals, he was clipped by teammate Nolan Williams in the final bout, 15-14. Rightler was tied for the No. 1 seed following pools. Â
- In all, 17 Buckeyes finished among the Top 3 on the day.Â
- Sunday, the sophomore helped the Buckeye men to a 5-0 mark in the OSU Duals, as he was a perfect 8-0 on the day. Â
Makenna Webster | Field Hockey & Women's Ice Hockey | Gr. | St. Louis, Mo.Â
- Webster finished the weekend with four goals scored for her hockey teams – two for the ice hockey team and two for the field hockey team. Â
- She started the weekend with the ice hockey team in Bemidji, Minn., helping the team sweep Bemidji State. She tallied her first points of the season with two goals and an assist in the 8-2 win over the Beavers. Â
- After her two ice hockey games, she played in field hockey's 4-3 win over Louisville Sunday. Her two-goal performance included the overtime game-winner to help the team to its best start in program history. Â
- Webster, a captain for both squads, leads the field hockey team with 29 points and is in the top five nationally in goals per game and assists per game. She has recorded three points in three games played for the ice hockey team. Â
