Balanced Buckeyes Defeat Northwestern 90-60 in Evanston

Ohio State had six players score in double figures in a balanced win on Friday night.

EVANSTON, Ill. – The No. 20/18 Ohio State Buckeyes (11-3, 2-1 B1G) beat Northwestern (6-9, 1-3 B1G) on Friday night by a 90-60 margin.
Ohio State got off to a quick start, but Northwestern got hot from long range as the Buckeyes led 20-19 after 10 minutes. The Buckeyes outscored the Wildcats 22-9 in the second quarter to build a 42-28 halftime lead. OSU extended its lead to 62-41 at the end of the third quarter and 90-60 at the final buzzer.
Celeste Taylor was the first Buckeye to reach double figures and finished with 15 points. Jacy Sheldon (18), Taylor Thierry (10), Eboni Walker (season-high 11) and Cotie McMahon (10) all scored in double figures as each starter had at least 10 points in the game. Diana Collins scored a career-high 10 points.
How it Happened
Ohio State scored the first eight points, holding Northwestern scoreless for more than four minutes before back-to-back Wildcat triples cut the Buckeyes' lead to 8-6 midway through the quarter. Northwestern made its first four three-point attempts and took its first lead at 16-15 with 2:47 remaining. Taylor responded with a three-point play and Ohio State held the 20-19 advantage after 10 minutes.
The Buckeyes opened the second quarter with the first four points and opened a 34-25 lead at the media timeout, outscoring Northwestern 14-6 in the quarter until that point. Ohio State ended the quarter with back-to-back three-pointers, holding Northwestern scoreless nearly four minutes and taking a 42-28 lead into the locker room.
The Wildcats made a pair of layups to begin the second half. The Buckeyes strung together nine-unanswered points to extend their lead to 54-35 midway through the third quarter. Ohio State wrapped up the quarter with the final four points to take a 62-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
Sheldon and Walker opened fourth-quarter scoring before the Wildcats got on the board. The Buckeyes used runs of five and seven points to lead 80-51 with 4:39 remaining. Northwestern scored the next seven points and Emma Shumate capped scoring for the game with a three-pointer at 90-60.
