How it Happened
- Ohio State scored in the first minute of the game, with Cayla Barnes finding the back of the net 47 seconds into play. She appeared to mishandle the puck on the glove side of Jojo Chobak, but she skated around the net and finished in the top left corner of the net to put the Buckeyes up one.
- Sloane Matthews extended the Buckeyes' lead with a goal at 7:45. The Buckeyes dumped the puck behind the Huskies' net to go for a line change and Matthews jumped on the ice and stopped St. Cloud State behind its own goal. Kenzie Hauswirth collected the puck and took a shot on Chobak that rebounded into the goalie crease where Matthews knocked it into the goal.
- Jenna Buglioni scored the final goal of the first period at 15:28. Hadley Hartmetz sent the puck from behind the Huskies' net to Buglioni, who was waiting right at the top of the goalie crease to one-time the pass past Chobak.
- At the end of the first period, the Buckeyes had 13 shots on goal while Raygan Kirk made five saves.
- Both teams were scoreless in the second period, but not for lack of trying. The Buckeyes added another 12 shots on goal in the frame and held St. Cloud to five again.
- St. Cloud scored its first goal 22 seconds into the third period to bring the Ohio State lead down to two.
- Makenna Webster restored the Buckeyes' three-goal lead 5:50 into the period. Barnes sent the puck down the slot and the rebound was knocked in by Webster.
- The Buckeyes were called for interference at 5:53 and the Huskies went on to score 31 seconds into their power play to make it a 4-2 game.
- Neither team scored for the remaining 13 minutes. St. Cloud pulled Chobak with 2:14 to play for the extra skater, but the Buckeyes held them off.
- Barnes and Buglioni both scored their first goals since Dec. 9 against Minnesota State. They both have five goals on the year. Webster's goal is her first since Dec. 1 against St. Cloud State and her fifth of the season.
- St. Cloud State is the last team to score two goals on the Buckeyes. The teams last played Dec. 1-2 in Columbus.
- Ohio State has recorded three or more goals in the first period of four games this season.
