
Cheer & Dance Win Titles at D1A National Championships

Buckeyes claim top spots in spirit and jazz competitions
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State spirit and dance teams made its annual trip to Orlando, Fla. for the national championships and are coming back to Columbus with some well-earned hardware.
Last Friday evening, the spirit team (comprised of cheer, dance and Brutus) was crowned the D1A national champions and 48 hours later the dance team took home top honors in D1A jazz. It was also runner-up in D1A pom.
The Buckeyes' national title in D1A jazz continues a winning tradition that is unmatched. In five of the last six years, they've won at least one championship at nationals, culminating in 2022 when they won three:
- 2018:Â First place in jazz and pom
- 2019:Â First place in pom
- 2020:Â First place in jazz
- 2021:Â First place in jazz and pom
- 2022:Â First place in jazz, pom and gameday
- 2024: First place jazz
In the finals, the Buckeyes finished with a score of 98.9206, which topped second-place Minnesota at 98.4286. Ohio State and Minnesota also finished first and second, respectively, in the semifinals. In the pom finals, Oho State was edged out by Minnesota, who had score of 98.4762. The Buckeyes scored 97.7143. The Buckeyes did score the competition' best semifinal score at 95.8889.Â
The spirit national title came thanks to an event score of 98.45 on Friday evening, which was nearly four points better than runner-up Mississippi (94.733). Oklahoma, UMass and Louisiana-Lafayette rounded out the top five. The Buckeyes also had the best score in the semifinals (95.10).
In other results over the weekend, Ohio State finished second in the co-ed partner stunt (89.6), just narrowly behind first-place Weber State (90.1). The Buckeyes also finished seventh in the D1A mascot competition (84.92).
