The Ohio State University Cheer Team is the official Cheer Team under the Ohio State Athletic Department. Our team is a part of The Spirit Program which consists of the Ohio State University Cheer Team, Dance Team, and Brutus Buckeye. Serving as a fundamental part of Ohio State, the teams promote Buckeye Spirit at a multitude of athletic events including Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Women’s Volleyball. In addition, the team plays an integral role in the Ohio State Community by performing at pep rallies, parades, and other University-related events on campus and throughout the city of Columbus. The Ohio State Cheer Team also competes annually in our own disciplines on the national level at the UCA Collegiate National Championship in Orlando, FL.
We are an official Varsity Sport at OSU, and our team is a Large Coed Team comprised of 12 males and 12 females. We do not offer any group or all-female stunts spots.
The team has access to all the resources that Ohio State has to offer to all Varsity student athletes including:
- Dedicated Strength & Conditioning Coaches
- Dedicated Nutritionist
- Dedicated Athletic Trainer

Besides a strong technical background and a mature quality of movement, we look for well rounded individuals. We search for those who are able to conduct themselves professionally (our team members frequently engage in conversations with many alumni, university employees, donors, and fans) and have strong academic success! Our team culture and family atmosphere are vital to the team’s success, therefore a team oriented individual is also important.
The most important thing to make sure you do is communicate! Meet and stay connected to the coaching staff and continue to update us on the application process. We strongly recommend coming to clinics and reaching out via email as it is a great way to meet the coaching staff while also getting to train with other prospects and current members of the team. If you are serious about coming to Ohio State, share that with us! We highly value transparency and communication both in the recruiting process and on our team. The most important thing to make sure you do is communicate!
