
Buckeyes Open Maui Jim Intercollegiate with Round of 275

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State got a round 65 from senior Maxwell Moldovan and a 66 from graduate Neal Shipley as the Buckeyes opened with a 275 on the first day of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Country Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
As a team, the Buckeyes are in sixth place at 9-under par, just two shots out of fourth in the 15-team field.
Moldovan and Shipley both carded their lowest 18-hole score of their collegiate careers and also tied their low round in relation to par. For Moldovan, he made eight birdies in his round of 6-under 65. Six of those came in an eight-hole stretch midway through the round. He is in a tie for fourth heading into the second round. Shipley made six birdies and just one bogey in his round of 66 and is a shot behind Moldovan in 10th place.
Adam Wallin birdied his final two holes to finish-up his round with an even-par 71. Freshman Tyler Sabo made his collegiate debut and opened with a 2-over 73. Patrick Schmucking was a shot higher with a 74.
Three Buckeyes are also competing in the Maui Jim Individual this week at the nearby Legend Trail Golf Club. Jacob Tarkany led the Buckeye trio with a 1-over 73. Drew Mulcahy followed with a 75 and Tyler Groomes posted a 78. The final two rounds of the individual event will be played on Saturday.
The Buckeyes will start the second round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at 11 a.m. ET on Saturday morning.
