Buckeyes Blast Miami 3-0 in the Season Opener
8/17/2023 10:07:00 PM | General, Women's Soccer
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State handled the rain and the RedHawks of Miami (Ohio) on Thursday as the Buckeyes opened the season with a 3-0 victory. Junior forward Kailyn Dudukovich was the star of the night as she scored a pair of goals and added an assist.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes got their first goal of the season in the 17th minute. Freshman Amanda Schlueter collected a free ball and moved into the attacking third. She crossed to Dudukovich who finished with the left foot. That was the third of the Buckeye's quality chances in the early portion of the match.
Dudukovich's second goal came just before the half. Senior Christin Baumbick played a ball into the box from the left wing. It was kicked around in front of the net, but not cleared before Dudukovich got a foot on it and put it in the back of the net.
The second half started in downpour but it didn't slow the Buckeyes. Mirann Gacioch took the ball from midfield, found Dudukovich near the top of the box and she laid it off to Baumbick. Baumbick's strike from nearly 30 yards was tipped by the RedHawk keeper but it bounced over the line for the third goal of the night. That gave the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead in the 55th minute and the defense would hold the shutout the rest of the way. Ohio State outshot Miami 15-1 in the second half.
