COLUMBUS, Ohio – Two Ohio State women's soccer midfielders will represent Jamaica in this summer's FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia. Former All-American Tiffany Cameron and rising-senior Peyton McNamara will team-up to help lead The Raggae Girlz when they open the tournament on Sunday, July 23 vs. France.
Jamaica is in the very strong Group F. In addition to playing France, the Jamaicans will also play Panama on July 29 and Brazil on August 2.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, to Jamaican parents, Cameron played in six matches at the senior level for the Canadian national team but changed her affiliation to Jamaica, making her debut in a friendly against Chile in February of 2019. She has made 14 appearances for the national team, including playing in the 2019 World Cup and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
An NSCAA second team All-American in 2012, Cameron remains the Buckeyes' all-time leading goal scorer with 40 and 96 career points. The Mississauga, Ontario, native led the Buckeyes with 21 goals in 2012, shattering the previous school record of 13. A two-time first team All-Big Ten selection, Cameron's nine game-winning goals in her senior season were the most in the country. Cameron added five assists in her senior campaign to tally 47 points, also an Ohio State single-season record.
Cameron has played professionally since graduating in 2013 and has spent time domestically in the NWSL, in the Frauen Bundesliga in Germany as well as Sweden, Norway and Hungary.
McNamara is American born and is playing for Jamaica through her mother's heritage. She has made three appearances for the senior national team as well as representing the U20 national team in the CONCACAF Women's U20 Championship in 2020 in the Dominican Republic. She also trained with the national team in advance of the Tokyo Olympic Games in the summer of 2021.
The Norwalk, Conn. native was the Co-Big Ten Freshman of the Year during the spring of 2021. She appeared in all 14 matches and scored six goals with two game-winners. She was limited to just five matches in the fall of 2021 by an ankle injury but came back fit in 2022 and had a great season. This past fall, she scored a career-high seven goals, including a trio of two-goal games. She notched both of the Buckeye's goals in the NCAA Tournament second round game at No. 9 Arkansas to cap the season.
McNamara has made 39 appearances for the Buckeyes over the last three seasons and has 13 goals and six assists.
