
Buckeyes Clipped by Marquette, 13-12

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team scored four of the game's final five goals but its comeback fell short, as the Buckeyes (5-8) lost to Marquette (11-1), 13-12, Tuesday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wis.
How it Happened
The teams traded goals early, with Maddie Barhorst notching her first as a Buckeye, before a three-goal Ohio State run – with goals from Annie Hargraves, Casey Roberts and Nicole Ferrara – put the Buckeyes ahead 4-1 with 5:39 left in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles tallied the next five, with four before the end of the first quarter, to push ahead 6-4.
The Buckeyes stopped the Marquette streak with a Jamie Lasda free position goal at 12:00 of the second quarter for a one-goal game (6-5) but the Golden Eagles notched the next three. Ohio State converted two free position chances in the final 3:54 of the first half for a 9-7 game at the half. Zoe Coleman and Barhorst had the Buckeye free position tallies.
Just three goals were scored in the third quarter. Hargraves posted a free position goal at 10:12 to again make it a one-goal game (9-8) but Marquette tallies at 7:31 and 2:09 moved the lead to 11-8 through 45 minutes.
After Marquette scored the first goal of the fourth quarter at 14:17, Ohio State scored three times in a 1:18 span to draw within one. Hargraves, Coleman and Ferrara all scored unassisted in the stretch. A Marquette free position goal at 9:53 moved MU back ahead by two. Ferrara's third goal of the game, set up by Barhorst, cut the score to 13-12 with 16 seconds remaining but Ohio State was unable to get the equalizer, as the Golden Eagles recorded the ensuing draw control.
Goalie Regan Alexander led Ohio State with a career-best 15 saves, including 10 in the second half. Ferrara and Hargraves each had a hat trick, with Ferrara's first goal of the day the 100th of her Buckeye career. Barhorst had two goals and an assist for her first points as a Buckeye. Coleman also had three points with two goals and a helper and Jamie Lasda had a goal and an assist. Chloe Johnson had a team-best six draw controls.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will return to Big Ten play with a noon game at No. 10 Maryland Saturday.
- The regular season home finale will be vs. No. 2 Northwestern at 6 p.m. April 15 and the regular season wraps up at No. 22 Rutgers April 20.

Buckeye This and That
- With 15 saves, Alexander passed her previous best of 14 saves, set two times earlier this season.
- Barhorst notched the first two goals and assist of her Buckeye career.
- Coleman had a career-high three points and her third career two-goal game. The freshman has 10 goals and 14 points this season.
- Ferrara, who moved her goal and point streaks to eight, had her 13th game with three or more goals and now has 102 in the Scarlet and Gray, adding 42 assists for 144 points. She leads the squad with 33 goals this season and is second with 40 points.
- Hargraves had a second consecutive game with a hat trick, the first two of her Buckeye career. She has 10 goals this season, with two-plus in each of the last three games.
- Johnson's six draw controls give her 227 in her career. She is second all-time, 10 behind Molly Wood, who had 237 from 2015-18.
- Lasda has a team-best 24 assists and 42 points this season.
- Roberts matched her career best with a team-high four groundballs.
