COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. Megan Mirick (Weber), a 2008 Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame inductee and women’s lacrosse first-ever All-American First Team selection, is highlighted this week. Here are this week’s ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ student-athletes:
Kameron Nelson | Men’s Gymnastics | Jr. | Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
- Junior all-arounder Kameron Nelson became the first Buckeye since 2017 to earn All-American honors three times in a single NCAA Championship meet this past weekend. Nelson finished third on floor (14.766), fifth on vault (14.800) and sixth in the all-around (81.665).
- On Friday, Nelson competed in the all-around (81.664) for the first time at Ohio State. He began with a 12.266 on his pommel horse debut and went on to tie his PR (14.800) on vault and earned a PR of 14.566 on floor, sticking his final pass. Nelson also stuck his dismount on rings (13.766).
- On Saturday, Nelson’s all-around score improved by 0.001 as he finished with a score of 81.665. He earned PR’s and sticks on floor (14.766), vault (14.800) and high bar (12.966) and also stuck his dismount on rings (13.600).

Bryannia Murphy | Women’s Track & Field | Sr. | Desoto, Texas
- Bryannia Murphy put together a stellar weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational to lead the Buckeyes among strong competition. Murphy ran a leg on the 4x400m relay squad that broke its own program record by running the third-fastest time (3:26.57) in the country so far this season and winning the event.
- Murphy also ran a personal-best time of 51.54 in the 400m, just 0.01 second off the program record, to finish seventh. Her 400m time ranks 11th in the country.

Shane Wetzel | Men’s Volleyball | Fr. | Lake Mary, Florida
- With a game-high 17 kills, helped Ohio State advance to the MIVA Semifinals with a 3-0 win over Lindenwood.
- Also added a match-high tying eight digs in the win over the Lions.
- The MIVA Newcomer of the Year hit .464 to help keep Ohio State alive in the MIVA Tournament.
- Ohio State will play host to McKendree at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Covelli Center.

Jamie Lasda | Women’s Lacrosse | Jr. | Ithaca, N.Y.
- Against No. 2-ranked Northwestern Saturday, Jamie Lasda had a career-high eight points, with four goals and four assists.
- She crossed the 100-point mark for her career and now has 104 points, with 62 goals and 42 assists, in 40 games in the Scarlet and Gray.
- This season, Lasda leads the Buckeyes with 29 assists and 54 points, both career highs, and is second with 25 goals.
- The Saturday game, which had 1,316 fans – the most since at least 2017 for the Buckeyes – closed out the Ohio State regular season home slate. The squad plays at Rutgers Thursday evening on BTN before the conference tournament starts next week.

Sam Hackenbracht | Softball | Sr. | Massillon, Ohio
- Hackenbracht hit a team-best .471 last week with three home runs and nine RBI as Ohio State won four of five Big Ten games – all on the road.
- In the second game of a doubleheader sweep at Penn State, she had three hits, including a home run and double, while driving in three runs.
- Last weekend at Illinois, Hackenbracht had six hits in 11 at-bats (.545) and hit two home runs in helping the Buckeye to a series win over the Illini.
- In 14 Big Ten games, Hackenbracht is batting .447 and has driven in a team-best 18 runs.
- One more home run for Hackenbracht, who has 36 in her career, will tie her for seventh on Ohio State’s all-time list.

Ohio State Women’s Golf Team
- The women’s golf team captured its 17th Lady Buckeye title in program history over the weekend.
- The Buckeyes shot a team score of 854 (-10) and had a nine-stroke lead on second-place Michigan State.
- Through the first two rounds, Ohio State shot 558 (-18), which is a 36-hole program record.
- Caley McGinty was the top individual finisher for the Buckeyes. She placed third with a 54-hole score of 211 (-5).

Cannon Kingsley | Men’s Tennis | Sr. | Northport, N.Y.
- Won both his singles and doubles matches last Saturday, leading the Buckeyes to an easy 4-0 win over Penn State.
- He is starting to play his best tennis of the season, just at the right time.
- Is now 12-3 this spring with five wins at the No. 1 spot.
- The Buckeyes need just one more win to secure their 17th consecutive Big Ten title.

Lexi Edwards | Women’s Gymnastics | Sr. | Richmond, Va.
- Lexi Edwards became the ninth All-American in program history, and first since 2012, with a sixth-place finish on floor in the first semifinal session of the 2023 NCAA Championships.
- Competing the last routine of the session, she scored a 9.9375 for her 10th 9.900 or higher on the apparatus this season.
- Edwards is just the third Buckeye to earn All-America honors on floor.
