COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s hockey team, the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, will play Saturday in the second round of the tournament at 5 p.m. in the OSU Ice Rink. The Buckeyes (31-5-2, 15-1-2 WCHA) will play Quinnipiac, who won Thursday’s first-round game.

Ohio State in the NCAA Tournament
- Ohio State looks to defend its 2022 national title in this year’s championship tournament.
- The Buckeyes have a 5-2 record in the tournament after making their first appearance in 2018.
- Four WCHA teams made the tournament this year – No. 2 seed Minnesota, Wisconsin and Minnesota Duluth.
- Ohio State earns the No. 1 overall seed for the second consecutive year. This season also marks the second that NCAA tournament games have been held in Columbus for women’s hockey.
- This year’s tournament is the fourth straight that Ohio State has been in. The team has made five of the last six tournaments.
- The Buckeyes look to advance to their fourth Frozen Four.
Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State played in the WCHA Final Faceoff Championship game last week for the fourth consecutive year. The Buckeyes fell to Minnesota, 3-1. The team advanced to the finals with a 2-1 win over Minnesota Duluth in the semifinals.
- Jenn Gardiner, a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Award, leads the Buckeyes with 54 points on the year. She ranks sixth nationally in total points this year.
- Emma Maltais paces the team with 35 assists this season. She is sixth nationally in assists per game (.97).
- Sophie Jaques leads the team with a career-high 22 goals for the 2022-23 season. The defenseman is tied with Maltais for second on the team in points with 46.
- Amanda Thiele has earned a record of 18-3-1 in goal for Ohio State this season. Her 18 wins ties her career-high set last season. She has made 432 saves on the year for a .909 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average.
- The Buckeyes are the best team on the faceoff at this point in the season, winning a nation-leading 57.4% of faceoffs. Gabby Rosenthal leads the team with 462 wins.
- Ohio State also leads the country with a .323 power play percentage and is second in scoring offense (4.24).
- The team is top-five in the country in assists (252), goals (161), power play goals (32), scoring margin (2.45) and points (414).
- Ohio State remains at the top of both national polls entering the NCAA Tournament. The team is earning 12 of 20 first-place votes in the USCHO.com poll and 15 of 19 first-place votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. Ohio State has received the No. 1 ranking in either poll in all but two weeks this season.
- Ohio State has won 31 games this season, marking the second consecutive year, and second time in program history, the Buckeyes have earned at least 30 wins in a single season. Jaques Named Patty Kaz Top-Three Finalist
- For the second consecutive year, Sophie Jaques has been named a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award.
- She joins Alina Mueller of Northeastern and Danielle Serdachny of Colgate as the remaining finalists for the award.
- Jaques has led defensemen in goals and points the entire season.
- She is the second-best power play scorer in the country with eight power play goals on Ohio State’s nation leading power play.
- The Toronto, Ont. native is the WCHA’s Defender and Player of the Year.
