Ohio State Defeats No. 11 Army on Road

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team (10-3, 1-1 B1G) beat No. 11 Army (2-8, 1-1 ECAC) by a 409.950-387.600 margin on Saturday afternoon in West Point. This is the Buckeyes’ highest team score of the season.
On rings, Tomohiro Kawada (13.800) and Kristian Grahovski (13.400) both stuck their dismount. Caden Spencer stuck his vault (14.750) to win the event title.
How it Happened
Floor
The Buckeyes began the meet with a season-best 69.400 on floor, earning the top-five scores of the competition. Kameron Nelson (14.400), Spencer (14.250), Jacob Harmon (13.700) and Jesse Pakele (13.700) all earned personal-best scores. Kazuki Hayashi rounded out the OSU lineup with a 13.350.
Pommel Horse
Ohio State scored a 67.350 on pommel horse, its second-best team score of the season. Grahovski led the Buckeyes with the second-highest score of the meet (14.150). Parker Thackston earned an even 14.000 and Logan McGlynn earned a personal-best 13.700. Pakele got a 13.500 in his collegiate pommel horse debut and Luke Smigliani wrapped up the rotation with a 12.000.
Rings
The Buckeyes’ 68.050 was their best team score of the season on rings. Ohio State finished in the top-four spots with Donovan Hewitt winning the event title (14.000), Kawada earned a personal-best 13.800 in his season debut and Matthew Piekarski earning a personal-best 13.500 to round out the podium. Grahovski earned a 13.400 and Arthur Ashton’s personal-best 13.350 wrapped up the event for the Buckeyes.
Vault
Ohio State’s team score of 71.550 on vault was the second-best of the season as the Buckeyes had the four best scores of the day. Spencer led the Buckeyes with a huge personal-best 14.750 and the stick. Hewitt (14.300), Harmon (14.300) and Nelson (14.250) were also among the top-four performances. Hayashi rounded out the OSU lineup with a 13.950.
Parallel Bars
The Buckeyes earned a 66.550 as a team on parallel bars. Spencer earned his second event title of the meet with a 14.100. Nelson was second on the team and third overall with a 13.600. Hayashi (13.450), Hewitt (12.750) and Jakob Murray (12.650) wrapped up the Buckeyes’ lineup.
High Bar
Ohio State wrapped up the meet with its second-highest high bar score (67.050) of the season, earning the top four scores of the meet. Spencer won his third-consecutive event by tying his personal-best 13.900. Hayashi was second (13.750), while Hewitt’s personal-best 13.600 was good for third. Grahovski tied his personal-best score of 13.400 to finish fourth and Harmon made his debut on high bar (12.400).
