
No. 3 Buckeyes Start B1G Play with Shutout of Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State women's tennis team kicked off Big Ten play with a 7-0 win over Penn State Saturday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Buckeyes, the defending Big Ten regular season champion, are now 8-4 on the year. Penn State is 8-6 and 0-2 in league play.
Against the Nittany Lions, Ohio State captured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three and then notched four straight-set singles wins, along with two singles victories in a match tiebreaker. Sydni Ratliff, Danielle Willson and Kolie Allen all won in singles and doubles. Isabelle Boulais was part of a doubles victory and Irina Cantos Siemers, Lucia Marzal and Shelly Bereznyak were victorious in singles.

In Doubles
- The Buckeye tandem of Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson dropped just one game on court three against Alexandra Nielsen and Ioana Gheorhita.
- On court two, Sydni Ratliff and Isabelle Boulais clinched the point, as they topped Karly Friedland and Olivia Dorner, 6-3.
- The match on court one was suspended tied at four.
In Singles
- With three straight-set singles wins, Ohio State clinched the team win.
- 22-ranked Sydni Ratliff downed Yvonne Zuffova on court two, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 105 Shelly Bereznyak followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on court four vs. Olivia Dorner.
- Danielle Willson notched the fourth point, topping Alexandra Nielsen, 6-2, 6-1, on court six.
- Kolie Allen also won in straight sets, defeating Ioana Gheorghita, 6-4, 6-2, on court three.
- The last two matches went to a super tiebreaker.
- On court five, Lucia Marzal dropped just one game to take the first set but dropped the second, 6-4. In the tiebreaker, she pulled away for a 10-4 win.
- The final match on court one was between No. 33 Irina Cantos Siemers and No. 42 Sofiya Chekhlystova. The Nittany Lion was ahead early in the first set but Cantos Siemers came back and the set went to a tiebreak, captured by Cantos Siemers. Chekhlystova pulled away in the second, 6-2, for a match tiebreaker. Cantos Siemers won 10-2 to close out the conference shutout.
- Bereznyak and Marzal are both 8-1 this spring, while Cantos Siemers is 7-3.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeye squad will head to Los Angeles to face UCLA at 3 p.m. ET March 12.
- The showdown against UCLA is part of a two-match West Coast series that also features a match at No. 25 Pepperdine at 4 p.m. ET March 14.
- After its California trip, Ohio State will open a three-match homestand vs. Big Ten foes, as it hosts Wisconsin March 17, Minnesota March 19 and Purdue March 24.
- Admission is free to all regular season home matches and live video and scoring will be available.
