Buckeyes Post 16-6 Win over Louisville

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With three runs of four-plus goals, the Ohio State women's lacrosse team defeated Louisville, 16-6, Tuesday in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The Buckeyes scored the game's first five goals and didn't look back, with a 7-4 lead at halftime. Jamie Lasda led the Buckeyes (5-7) with seven points on two goals and five assists and Nicole Ferrara had five goals (with four assisted by Lasda). Casey Roberts had a hat trick and two assists for a five-point game and Annie Hargraves notched a hat trick. Regan Alexander had 10 saves in the Buckeye cage.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes are off this upcoming weekend. The squad will play at Marquette next Tuesday and at No. 11 Maryland April 8
- The regular season home finale will be vs. No. 3 Northwestern at 6 p.m. April 15 and the regular season wraps up at No. 22 Rutgers April 20.
- Admission is free to all Ohio State women's lacrosse regular season home games.
How it Happened
- The Buckeyes scored three times before the game was five minutes old and led Louisville (4-7) 5-0 with 4:14 left in the first quarter.
- Casey Roberts set up Caly O'Brien for a tally at 12:43 before Jamie Lasda found Nicole Ferrara in front for a goal 38 seconds later. Lasda drove the net and scored unassisted at 10:19.
- Zoe Coleman scored off a pass from Chloe Johnson with the Buckeyes player-up at 6:02 and at 4:14 Annie Hargraves found the back of the cage.
- The Cards scored twice in 61 seconds in the final 1:43 of the quarter for a 5-2 Buckeye lead through 15 minutes.
- Each team scored twice in the second quarter for a 7-4 game at the half. Lasda set up Ferrara at 12:50 and the Cardinals' Nicole Perroni answered 15 seconds later. Lasda notched her second of the day unassisted at 3:18 and a free position goal from UofL closed the scoring with 51 seconds left in the half.
- Ohio State opened the third quarter on a five-goal run. After Roberts scored unassisted at 14:21, Lasda assisted on three goals in a row. She found Roberts for her second straight goal at 12:15 and then set up back-to-back Ferrara tallies at 11:15 and 10:23. A free position goal from Hargraves followed at 8:38.
- Louisville ended the Buckeye streak with a goal at 7:47. Ohio State found the back of the cage twice more before the end of the quarter, with Roberts converting a free position chance at 4:55 and O'Brien scoring unassisted at 2:08.
- Roberts set up Ferrara at 9:13 and Hargraves completed her hat trick at 5:19. The Cards had the game's final goal at 3:15.
- Ohio State had the advantage in shots, 34-21. Regan Alexander played all 60 minutes and had 10 saves for the Buckeyes. Three goalies combined for eight saves for Louisville.
- The Cards edged the Buckeyes in draw controls, 14-12. O'Brien had three for Ohio State, while Lasda and Johnson each had three.
- The Buckeyes won the ground ball battle, 20-11. Emily Magalotti had a career-high six in the win and Sarah Johnson picked up four.
- Katie Kaucheck, Ava Keethler and Bryce Pfundstein each had two caused turnovers for the Scarlet and Gray.
Buckeye This and That
- Alexander now has seven games with 10-plus saves this season.
- Lasda's five assists and seven points were both career highs. Her previous best was three assists, set three times, and she had a six-point day last season. She has a team-high 23 assists and 41 points on the year and is second with 18 goals.
- Ferrara's five goals were one shy of her career best and marked her third career five-goal outing. She has nine games with five points, along with one six-point day. She leads the Buckeyes with 30 goals and is second with 37 points.
- Hargraves marked her first collegiate hat trick and had a second straight multiple-goal game.
- Roberts had her second hat trick of the year and her third multi-goal game. It was her second game with two assists this season and the five points were a career best.
- Chloe Johnson is now tied for second in program history with 221 draw controls. She is 16 back of Molly Wood's all-time mark of 237.
