THOUGHTS ON THE NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Director Rosalind Joseph: “It takes me some time to process, but this was a special meet. We had great performances all around. But first, wow – Adelaide Aquilla! She has really persevered this year, but has never made excuses or retreated from the work. She just shows up everyday with the will of a champion and that showed today! I’m so happy for her to close out her stellar career as a national champion! On the women’s side, we also added the First Team All-American 4x400m relay with Alyssa [Marsh], Bryannia [Murphy], Chanler [Robinson] and Jaydan [Wood] finishing eighth in the country with a new school record.
On the men’s side, we put points on the board in the men’s triple jump with Clarence [Foote-Talley]. He had four of his six jumps better than his PR, which is the right time of the year to be at his best form. I also thought our women and men that represented the Buckeyes did a great job at competing in arguably the hardest track & field meet to qualify for. I thought everyone competed well, learned some valuable lessons on the national stage for the next time we’re back here, because we do all plan to be back!”
Assistant Coach Travis Coleman: “It’s hard to put in words how proud I am to get to work with these student-athletes. Seeing Hayden fight to get in the mix of possibly the toughest shot put competition in indoor history is a great sign for what’s to come from him. This was his first indoor championships and the experience he gained will pay dividends come outdoor. Watching Adelaide pull off the storybook ending to her career in a Buckeye uniform is why we do this as coaches. To see her hard work and dedication be rewarded in the way it was is the reward every coach preaches to their athletes. I’m glad she was able to put that on display for the world to see.”
