No. 11 Buckeyes Down No. 5 Georgia, 4-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a 4-0 win over No. 5 Georgia today in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, the No. 11 Ohio State women's tennis team moved to 5-0 this season. The Buckeyes took the doubles point and won three singles matches in straight sets for the nonconference victory.
Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff paired up for a doubles win and also won in singles, with Shelly Bereznyak also winning in singles. Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson also won in doubles.
Quoting head coach Melissa Schaub
"We played well today. We continue to compete and fight as hard as we can every day. Georgia is a great team and we have a ton of respect for them. To get a win like this at home means a lot to us. We need to continue to work and get better every day!"
Up Next
- Ohio State will head to Seattle for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, which will be held Thursday through Monday.
- The squad will close out February with home matches vs. No. 23 Arizona State Feb. 19 and No. 10 NC State Feb. 22 before traveling to Lake Nona, Fla., to face No. 3 Texas A&M Feb. 26.
In Doubles
- The Buckeyes took the doubles point with wins on courts three and one.
- The Bulldogs posted a 6-3 victory on court two but the Buckeyes answered with two wins that finished within minutes of each other.
- Ohio State's tandem of Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson defeated Lea Ma and Dasha Vidmanova, 6-3, on court three, breaking for a 5-3 lead and serving it out, winning on the no-ad point.
- The No. 31-ranked duo of Irina Cantos Siemers/Sydni Ratliff followed with a court one win over Guillermina Grant and Mai Nirundorn. The Buckeyes were down 4-2 but won the final four games, breaking for the victory, 6-4.
In Singles
- Irina Cantos Siemers, ranked 30th, won in straight sets against No. 31 Dasha Vidmanova. The Buckeye took the final nine games of the match, posting a 6-4, 6-0 win for a 2-0 team lead.
- Shelly Bereznyak posted a straight-set win against Ania Hertel on court five. She was down a break early but broke for 3-4 and did not lose a game the rest of the first set. In the second, Bereznyak took four games in a row to claim the match, 6-4, 6-2.
- No. 15 Sydni Ratliff clinched the team victory with a court one win against No. 19 Lea Ma. The players were on serve through the first eight games before a hold and a break gave Ratliff the first set. In the second, Ratliff jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Ma won two in a row but Ratliff was able to close out the win, 6-4, 6-2.
- The remaining matches were abandoned. Ohio State's Isabelle Boulais and Danielle Willson were each up a set and Kolie Allen was leading in her third set, 4-0, when play was called.
- Cantos Siemers and Bereznyak are 4-0 this year, with Ratliff 3-1.
