
No. 2 Buckeyes Fall to No. 7 Texas A&M in Orlando

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its first outdoor match of the season, the No. 2 Ohio State women's tennis team fell to No. 7 Texas A&M, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Aggies won the doubles point, with a tiebreak on court two after the teams split the first two doubles matches, and picked up three of the first four singles matches for the team win. Ohio State is now 7-4 on the year, with the Aggies 10-1.
The doubles duo of Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson won for Ohio State, while Lucia Marzal and Irina Cantos Siemers posted singles victories.
In Doubles
- In a battle of Top 15 doubles teams on court one, the Aggies' No. 10-ranked Carson Branstine and Mary Stoiana topped No. 11 Sydni Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers, 6-2.
- The Buckeye tandem of Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson evened doubles, as they were 7-5 winners over Gianna Pielet and Mia Kupres on court three. The match was close throughout, with the Buckeyes winning the final two games for the victory.
- The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on court two in the match between Buckeyes Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak and No. 34-ranked Jayci Goldsmith and Salma Ewing. The Buckeyes extended the match to the tiebreaker, but the Aggies prevailed, 7-5, to clinch the doubles point.
In Singles
- 77 Jayci Goldsmith put Texas A&M up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court five vs. Isabelle Boulais.
- Buckeye Lucia Marzal got Ohio State on the board, as she was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over No. 68-ranked Daria Smetannikov on court six. The win was Marzal's fourth in a row, all in straight sets, and she is 7-1 in dual matches.
- The Aggies won the next two completed matches to clinch the team win.
- On court three Salma Ewing topped Kolie Allen, 6-4, 6-3.
- The court four match went to a third set. Buckeye Shelly Bereznyak won the first, 6-4, before No. 121 Mia Kupres posted a shutout in the second set. In the third, the Buckeye was down a break early and lost, 6-2. It was the first loss of the dual match season for Bereznyak, who is 7-1 this spring.
- On court one, No. 33-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers rallied to defeat No. 37 Carson Branstine. The Aggie won three of the final four games to take the first set, 6-3. In the second, Cantos Siemers claimed the final three games to win the set 7-5 and force a decisive third. With the match even at five, Cantos Siemers took control at the end for a 7-5 set win.
- The last match, between No. 9 Mary Stoiana and No. 22 Sydni Ratliff on court two, went to three sets. Ratliff dropped the first set, 6-3, but tied the match with a 6-4 win in the second, breaking to go ahead 5-3. Stoiana used an early break in the third en route to a 6-2 victory and the final point for the Aggies
