
Ohio State Hosts CCFC Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State fencing team opens postseason competition this weekend with the Central Collegiate Fencing Championships in French Field House in Columbus. Admission and parking are free.
Saturday is the team competition, with an individual tournament Sunday. Fencing starts each day at 8 a.m. A full schedule and more is on the TOURNAMENT CENTRAL page.
Both the Buckeye men and women earned the No. 1 seed, set by head-to-head records during the regular season.
Ohio State Schedule
8:30 a.m. – BYE
9:40 a.m. – Women vs. Wayne State, Men vs. Detroit Mercy
10:50 a.m. – Women vs. Detroit Mercy, Men vs. Wayne State
1 p.m. – Women vs. Lawrence, Men vs. Lawrence
2:10 p.m. – Women vs. Denision, Men vs. Cleveland State
3:20 p.m. – Women vs. Cleveland State
4:30 p.m. – Women vs. Northwestern
The CCFC
This is the third year for the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference. In year one, no postseason competition was held because of Covid. Last season, Ohio State claimed both the men’s and women’s team titles. The Buckeyes also captured the men’s and women’s sabre and foil squad trophies and the men’s epee championship. This is the first year an individual championship will be held.
The Buckeyes This Season
The Ohio State men have compiled a 28-9 record and were ranked fifth in the most recent poll. Foil leads the way with a 203-100 mark, followed by epee (198-97) and sabre (166-113).
For the women, the squad is 32-8 on the year and was ranked sixth. Foil has paced the women, compiling a 198-99 record, with epee second (190-98) and sabre third (160-128).
Individually, Dasha Myroniuk has 59 wins to lead women’s foil, with Claire Teresa Galavotti has 55. In women’s epee, Julia Semikin has compiled a team-high 29 wins, Montserrat Viveros has 28 and Kelly Feng and Katherine Whittemore each have 27, while Katrina Dyner has 26. Ele Perrier and Julieta Toledo share the lead in women’s sabre with 43 wins apiece.
For the men, in foil, Solon Li ranks first with 38 victories, Edriss Ndiaye has 33 and Diego Cervantes has 32. In epee, Paul Veltrup has notched a team-best 35 wins. Nolan Williams leads the men’s sabre squad with 31 victories and Jack Price is right behind with 30.
NCAA Competition Next
NCAA competition starts with regionals March 11 in Evanston, Ill. The NCAA Championships will be March 23-26 in Durham, N.C.
