COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom, or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. This week’s Title IX feature looks at the last major expansion of women’s sports into the Ohio State Department of Athletics, with soccer, lacrosse, rowing and hockey added in the last 25-30 years. Teagan Grant | Women’s Hockey | Sr. | New Liskeard, Ontario
- Teagan Grant scored her first career goal in Ohio State’s 5-0 shutout win of St. Thomas on Saturday.
- The goal came on her Senior Day, in front of family and friends in attendance. She tallied the Buckeyes’ final goal of the day to cap off the already momentous day.
- The senior defenseman has now scored seven points for her career with six assists on top of Saturday’s goal. She has skated in 65 games in her two seasons as a Buckeye.

Ed Shean | Men’s Lacrosse | So. | Seal Beach, California
- Ed Shean led the Buckeyes with a career-high six points in the team’s 19-12 win over Cleveland State on Saturday.
- Shean paced the Buckeyes with five goals on the day, besting his previous career single game high by three goals.
- The sophomore attacker has started both games for the Ohio State his season, with eight points on the year. Only two games into the season, he is just two points shy of tying his freshman year point total.

Sammy Sasso | Wrestling | r-Sr. | Nazareth, Pennsylvania
- Pinned Nebraska’s Dayne Morton for six team points for the Buckeyes vs. Nebraska
- Finished Big Ten season with an 8-0 record to improve to 34-0 in Big Ten duals for his career
- Has posted bonus points in 18 of 21 wins this season, including 10 wins by fall.

Jack Stevens | Men’s Volleyball | r-Sr. | Libertyville, Illinois
- Helped the Buckeyes improve to 9-3 overall, 2-0 in MIVA play last weekend
- Had 17 kills and 14 digs in wins over McKendree (3-1) and Lewis (3-0)
- His 11 kills vs. Lewis was one shy of a career high.

Kameron Nelson | Men’s Gymnastics | Jr. | Coeur d’Alene, Idaho
- Kameron Nelson led the Buckeyes to a comeback win against No. 4 Illinois on Saturday.
- Nelson won the vault title with an OSU season-best 14.650. He also had the highest Buckeye score on floor (13.650) and earned a 13.550 on rings after getting moved to the first spot in the rotation. Nelson capped his performances with a stuck dismount on parallel bars.
- This season, Nelson leads the Buckeyes with a 14th national ranking on floor (three-score average: 13.817) and a 14th ranking on vault (three-score average: 14.500).

Daniella Santos | Women’s Track & Field | Jr. | Hilliard, Ohio
- Daniella Santos broke the Ohio State indoor record for the 5000m at the Music City Challenge this past weekend. Santos was the runner-up, crossing the finish line in 16:04.71 and trimming nearly 10 seconds off the previous program record.
- This performance bumped her into the top-50 in the country.

Nicole Ferrara | Sr. | Women’s Lacrosse | Morristown, N.J.
- Nicole Ferrara led the Buckeyes to wins in their first two games in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium, with 10 goals In two games combined.
- She had five goals – all in the first quarter – in an eventual 18-6 win over Robert Morris Friday and then scored five more in a 10-9 win Sunday against Temple. Ferrara notched the gamewinner in both games.
- The Buckeyes’ leading returning scorer, she is on a 23-game point streak, with 57 goals and 81 points in the stretch, and has 114 points, with 79 goals, in the Scarlet and Gray.

Derek Keiser | Jr. | Rifle | Vienna, West Virginia
- Keiser set three range records in Ohio State’s match at MIT last weekend, helping the Buckeyes to a score of 4684, which was also a range record.
- Keiser set the high range marks in individual smallbore (587), individual air rifle (596) and individual aggregate (1183).
- He and his Buckeye teammates will compete alongside Akron and Nebraska at the NCAA Qualifier held at the Hugh W. Wylie Range on Saturday.
Allison Smith | Jr. | Softball | Champion, Ohio
- Smith was the winning pitcher in both Buckeye victories at the Black & Gold Classic last weekend in Orlando.
- In her last two outings, Smith allowed just two earned runs in 14.0 innings while striking out 17 batters.
- Teammate Emily Ruck, also a junior, stymied one of the nation’s best offenses in UCF on Saturday night, liming the Knights to just one run.
- The Smith-Ruck tandem had a 1.05 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over the final 20 innings of weekend action.
Eboni Walker | Women’s Basketball | Sr. | Las Vegas
- Senior Eboni Walker turned in her best week as a Buckeye against Minnesota and No. 2/3 Indiana, averaging 12.0 points and a team-high 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as she stepped into a starting role for the first time in the Scarlet & Gray.
- Against Minnesota, Walker had an OSU-high 12 points and a career-high six assists as she shot 4-of-7 from the floor.
- She made her first OSU start against No. 2/3 Indiana, earning her first double-double (12p, season-high 11 rebounds) as well. Walker was an even 6-of-12 from the floor and tallied four assists.
