
Buckeyes Suffer 4-1 Loss to Michigan in ITA Indoors Consolation

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6-seeded and No. 11-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team lost to No. 12 Michigan, 4-1, in consolation play at the ITA Indoor Team National Championship at the Seattle Tennis Club Sunday evening.
The Buckeyes are now 6-2 on the year, with the Wolverines 6-1. The teams will meet in a Big Ten match at noon April 16 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
In Doubles
- Michigan took the doubles point, winning on the top two courts.
- The Buckeyes was victorious in the first completed match, as Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak were 6-2 winners over Nicole Hammond and Andrea Cerdan, taking the final three games.
- The other two doubles matches were both tied at four-all when Ohio State won on court three.
- The Wolverines' No. 3-ranked duo of Kari Miller and Jaedan Brown broke for a 5-4 lead and served it out to win on court one over No. 37 Sydni Ratliff and Irina Cantos Siemers, 6-4.
- On court two, Ohio State's Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson faced Gala Mesochoritou and Julia Fliegner. After each team held for five-all, the Wolverines won the final two games, holding and then finishing with a break to take the match 7-5 and clinch the doubles point.
In Singles
- Buckeye Lucia Marzal tied the team score at one, as she dropped just two games on court six vs. Nicole Hammond, 6-0, 6-2.
- The Wolverines won by matching 6-1, 6-2, scores on courts three and one to take a 3-1 lead. On court three, No. 33-ranked Julia Fliegner defeated Kolie Allen and on court one, No. 36 Jaedan Brown topped No. 17 Sydni Ratliff.
- Michigan clinched the win with a court two victory, as No. 23 Irina Cantos Siemers fell to No. 68 Kari Miller, 6-4, 6-4. Miller broke for a 4-3 lead in the first set and Cantos Siemers was unable to get back on serve. In the second set, Cantos Siemers took the first three games before Miller went on a five-game run. The Buckeye held for 4-5 but Miller served it out.
- The matches on courts four and five were both in the second set when play was suspended.
Up Next
- The Buckeye will close out February with home matches vs. No. 23 Arizona State Sunday and No. 10 NC State Feb. 22 before traveling to Lake Nona, Fla., to face No. 3 Texas A&M Feb. 26.
