COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State women's tennis team was a 5-2 winner over No. 20 Arizona State Sunday afternoon in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes took the doubles point and won four singles matches in straight sets vs. ASU. Ohio State improves to 7-2 on the year, with the Sun Devils 8-2.
Sydni Ratliff, Irina Cantos Siemers and Shelly Bereznyak all won in singles and doubles, while Isabelle Boulais was part of a doubles win and Lucia Marzal notched a singles victory.
Quoting head coach Melissa Schaub
"I have a ton of respect for Arizona State and their program. I'm really happy with the way we bounced back today. We have a good group that works hard. It's a long season so we know we have a lot of tennis ahead of us and another opportunity against a top team Wednesday night!"
In Doubles
- The Buckeye duo of Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak quickly downed Marianna Argyrokastriti and Chelsea Fontenel, 6-1, on court three.
- The Buckeyes held 5-3 leads on courts one and two simultaneously before the Sun Devils attempted a comeback.
- On court one, Ohio State's No. 37-ranked duo of Sydni Ratliff/Irina Cantos Siemers clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over No. 8-ranked Domenika Turkovic Patricija Spaka. The Buckeyes led 5-2 before the Sun Devils went on a three-game run to draw even at five. Ohio State held for 6-5 and then broke on the no-ad point for the match and 1-0 Buckeye lead.
- On court two, Danielle Willson and Kolie Allen were in a tiebreak against Giulia Morlet and Sedona Gallagher when play was suspended.
In Singles
- Buckeye Lucia Marzal lost just one game in each set vs. Patricija Spaka to put the Buckeyes up 2-0.
- Ohio State won on the top two courts within a minute to clinch the team victory.
- On court one, No. 17-ranked Sydni Ratliff topped No. 54 Giulia Morlet, 6-3, 6-3.
- 23 Irina Cantos Siemers was a 6-1, 6-4 winner vs. No. 29 Domenika Turkovic on court two. Cantos won the final five games in the first set. In the second set, the Buckeye was down a break, 2-4, but won four games in a row to take the set, breaking on the no-ad point to clinch the team victory.
- The Sun Devils won the next two matches, posting straight-set victories on courts four and three.
- 105 Shelly Bereznyak took the final match of the day, as she topped No. 119 Sedona Gallagher, 7-6 (3), 6-4.
- Bereznyak is a team-best 6-0 in dual matches this spring, with Marzal 5-1, Cantos Siemers 5-2 and Ratliff 4-3.

- The Buckeyes will host No. 10 NC State at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, with free admission and parking. The squad will then travel to Lake Nona, Fla., to face No. 3 Texas A&M at 1 pm. Saturday.
