How it Happened
- The Buckeyes were first on the board, scoring in the first five minutes of the game. Cayla Barnes won a battle for the puck on the boards in the St. Cloud State defensive zone and took it herself, lighting the lamp at 4:18 to give Ohio State its first lead of the day.
- The Huskies tied it up at 13:25 off a goal from Laura Zimmermann. The score was knotted 1-1 after the first period. Ohio State had the 11-4 lead in shots on goal after the first 20 minutes of play.
- The Scarlet and Gray pulled away in the second period, scoring four goals in the middle frame.
- Jennifer Gardiner recorded Ohio State's first of five consecutive goals. The play began with Jocelyn Amos taking a shot that went wide of the St. Cloud State net. Hannah Bilka collected the puck behind the goal and sent it to Gardiner, whose shot from right above the goal line found the back of the net at 6:32.
- Olivia Mobley scored the Buckeyes next two goals to double their lead. Her first goal came at 8:44 after she snuck the puck into the top right corner of the net. Hadley Hartmetz earned the assist after keeping the puck in the offensive zone and tipping it to Mobley. For her second goal, Mobley rushed into the slot off the bench to send a Joy Dunne pass past St. Cloud State goaltender Jojo Chobak at 10:50. Â
- Kiara Zanon scored the team's final goal of the second period, knocking in a shot from Lauren Bernard that came off the glass at 15:40. Â
- Taking a 5-1 lead into the second intermission, Ohio State added 19 shots on goal in the second and held the Huskies scoreless while again keeping them to just four shots on target.
- Dunne closed out the Buckeyes' scoring with a power play goal at 10:05 in the third period. As the clock was winding down the St. Cloud State penalty, the freshman forward positioned herself right in front of Chobak and was there to redirect a shot from Makenna Webster under the glove of the Huskies' goaltender.
- St. Cloud State scored its second goal, and the final goal of the game, at 16:39.
- Olivia Mobley's two-goal game is her first as a Buckeye and fifth of her career. She has now recorded 95 career points. She also scored the team's game-winning goal, her second of the year.
- For the sixth time this season, Ohio State has scored at least six goals against its opponent.
- With a goal on the day, Gardiner continues to lead the Buckeyes with 21 points this season. She also becomes the first Buckeye to score 10 goals this year.
- Buckeye goaltender Amanda Thiele made 14 saves Saturday to earn her seventh win of the season.
- Hartmetz, Mobley, Dunne and Bernard led the team with two points in the game. Seven Buckeyes scored two points in the series against the Huskies.
- Amos, Barnes and Gardiner led the team with a +3 on ice in game two vs. St. Cloud State. Barnes finished the series with a team-high +4.
- Despite dropping game one, the Buckeyes ended up outscoring the Huskies, 7-4, in the series.
