COLUMBUS, Ohio – Addie Engel and Daniella Santos of the Ohio State women's cross country team ran in the NCAA Championships Saturday morning at Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Earlysville, Va.
In the 6K race, Engel finished 61st in 20:20.7, while Santos crossed the line 67th in 20:27.7.
Quoting head coach Sara Mason Vergote
"Addie was in All-American position for most of the race but had a fall. I thought Daniella did a great job moving up in the race.
"It wasn't the day we wanted but Addie and D gave everything they had - when we do that I can't be upset with the outcome. This season has taught us a lot about resiliency, and we return everyone in the Top 7 but Gia [Napoleon] next year."
An Outstanding Season for the Buckeye Duo
Engel and Santos were both individual qualifiers to the NCAA Championships after Top 7 finishes at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships. Engel is the first Buckeye to make three appearances at the national championship race and Santos was making her second trip. Engel was an individual qualifier in 2021 and she and Santos both raced in 2022 when the Buckeyes earned an automatic spot as a team.
This season, the duo both earned All-Great Lakes Region honors with Top 7 finishes at the regional meet. Engel was the Big Ten champion for the second year in a row and earned her third First Team All-Big Ten honor. Santos was a second team all-league honoree and is now a two-time All-Big Ten recipient.
