Buckeyes, Xavier Battle to Scoreless Draw

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State (3-4-3) and Xavier (5-3-2) battled to a scoreless draw Tuesday in the annual Connor Senn Match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

How it Happened
The teams were scoreless in the opening half with Ohio State proving to be the aggressor with a 7-3 edge on shots. The Buckeyes, who rank second nationally in corners per game, held a 7-0 edge in that category after 45 minutes.

The second half went much the same as the first with neither team able to get the game-winning score. The Buckeyes finished with a 15-7 edge in shots and a 5-3 edge on efforts on goal. Â

Senior defender Deylen Vellios came up huge in clutch time backing up keeper Peter Van Euwen.

Xavier's George Waites got an attempt by Van Euwen after a scramble but Vellios was there to clear the shot from in front of the net.

Vellios got a foot on the shot that then hit the crossbar and bounced free of the goal. The play was reviewed and ruled no goal.

Van Euwen got the start in goal for the Buckeyes, his four appearance and third start of the year. It was his first career shutout.

Senior captain Owen Sullivan saw his first action of the season on defense after missing the previous nine matches with injury. Â
