Buckeyes Thump Michigan 4-1
10/22/2023 4:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
The Buckeyes have earned a spot in the Big Ten Tournament and finish the regular season with a 9-6-2 overall record and a 5-4-1 mark in the conference. The win also eliminated Michigan from B1G Tournament contention as the Wolverines are now 7-6-4 and 3-5-2.
Freshman Amanda Schlueter had a goal and a pair of assists while Kailyn Dudukovich scored her 11th goal of the season. Emma Sears had a big impact on the game, scoring the first goal and assisting on another.
How it Happened
The Buckeyes started the scoring in the 34th minute as Sears beat her defender and pushed a shot towards goal as the Michigan keeper came charging. The keeper wasn't able to corral the shot and Sears stayed with the play and slipped a shot into the net. It was her third goal of the season and the 25th of her career.
Eight minutes later, Ella Giannola found herself open in the middle of the field at the top of the box following a pass from Schlueter. She unleashed a shot that found the back of the net, putting the Buckeyes in front 2-0. It was her fourth goal of the season and her first since Sept. 28.
Michigan would cut into the lead early in the second half, scoring at the 54:30 mark.
But the Buckeyes settled down and would put the game away in the 75th minute. Sears was dominant on the wing all game, and she again made a play. She drove the ball to the end line and made a beautiful centering pass to Schlueter and she finished for her fifth goal of the season.
Leading 3-1, the Buckeyes put an exclamation point on the game in the waning moments as Dudukovich scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. She finished a nice lead pass from Schlueter, who notched her second assist of the game.
The Buckeyes had 19 shots compared to 17 for Michigan but the Buckeyes lead 7-3 on corner kicks.
Sophomore keeper Molly Pritchard made another seven saves, including a pair of nice first-half saves to keep the momentum.
