No. 14 Buckeyes Down Lions, 4-2, in Home Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's hockey team scored the game's final two goals to defeat Lindenwood, 4-2, Friday in the home opener for the Scarlet and Gray. Brent Johnson, Davis Burnside and Stephen Halliday each had a goal and an assist in the win, while Michael Gildon had two helpers.

The Buckeyes, who are now 2-0-0 on the year, and Lions (1-2-0) will close the weekend series at 5 p.m. Saturday in Value City Arena on Youth Night. All fans 12 and under can purchase tickets for a discounted price (HERE) and there will be an Ohio State hockey tape giveaway for the first 200 youth players, as well as a concession discount for all youth wearing their team jersey or apparel. Youth players and coaches are invited to a free pregame chalk talk (free registration). A postgame autograph session with half the Buckeye squad will be available. Parking is free for home hockey games.

Stephen Halliday's tally broke the tie midway through the first but a Lions' power play goal knotted the score at two at 16:38 and the teams went into intermission deadlocked at two. The only goal of the second came from Brent Johnson on the power play at 10:41, as he marked his first goal in the Scarlet and Gray with the eventual gamewinner. Davis Burnside added an insurance goal in the third. The Buckeyes outshot Lindenwood, 45-28, in the game, with Logan Terness making 26 saves. Â

How it Happened
- Jake Dunlap redirected a Brent Johnson shot 1:30 into the game to put the Buckeyes on the board. Riley Hughes had the second assist, with all three marking their first point in the Scarlet and Gray.
- Lindenwood tied the game on Caleb Price's goal at 4:20 after a faceoff win.
- Stephen Halliday broke the deadlock, scoring on a rebound at 10:25, assisted by Michael Gildon and Davis Burnside.
- The Lions again responded, as Drew Kuzma put a shot far side on the power play at 16:38.
- Ohio State had the shot advantage in the first, 17-8.
- With a power play goal, Johnson broke the tie at 10:41 of the middle period. In the faceoff circle, he one-timed a pass from Halliday.
- The Buckeyes doubled the Lions in shots in the second stanza, 20-10.
- In the third, Burnside's team-best third goal of the year, scored from in close, put Ohio State up 4-2, with Gildon assisting.
- The Lions outshot the Buckeyes, 10-8, in the third. Ohio State ended the game ahead in shots, 45-28. The Buckeyes blocked seven shot attempts, with Johnson blocking a team-best two. Lindenwood had 12 shot blocks.
- Logan Terness made 26 saves for Ohio State in 59:54 in the net.
- Each team scored once on the power play – Ohio State was 1-for-6 and Lindenwood was 1-for-3.
- Burnside leads the Buckeyes with three goals and shares the point lead with Gildon with four each.
- Gildon and Theo Wallberg are first for the squad with three assists.
- Thomas Weis made his Buckeye debut in the win.
