COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
On Dec. 18, 49 current and former Ohio State student-athletes received degrees from the University. Learn more about the Autumn 2022 graduates on OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
Throughout the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Ohio State Athletics continues to celebrate exceptional female student-athletes and women’s teams throughout history, highlighting a new moment or person every week. This week’s feature is Emma (Laaksonen) Terho, a pioneer for women’s hockey at Ohio State and internationally. To learn more about her incredible career, both on and off the ice, visit OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
Here are this week’s Buckeye Spotlight student-athletes:
Quinn Kuntz & Emma Maltais | Women’s Hockey
- Senior goaltender Quinn Kuntz and graduate forward Emma Maltais organized a clothing drive in December to benefit the Star House.
- The duo collected over 600 articles of clothing from Ohio State student-athletes, coaches and staff to donate to the organization ahead of the holidays.
- The Star House helps aid youth, ages 14-24, who are experiencing homelessness in Central Ohio.
- On the ice, Kuntz is coming off two consecutive starts and wins in goal for the top-ranked Buckeyes. Maltais recently became the Ohio State record holder for career assists and has recorded 25 points this year. The team begins its second half of the 2022-23 campaign next week against No. 2 Wisconsin.

Sean McNeil | Men’s Basketball | Grad. | Union, Ky.
- The team’s “sharp-shooter”, Sean made three three-pointers in both games last week and has three games of three or more three-pointers this season
- He surpassed the 1,000 career-point mark on Dec. 21 before Christmas and averaged 12.0 ppg in the Buckeyes’ two wins last week.
- He averaged nearly 30 minutes per game and had three assists and zero turnovers last week as well
- One of the most veteran players on the team, Sean has started every game and is averaging 9.9 points per contest
- He has battled through a lot off the court this season and has remained a steady rock for the team. A day after one of his close friends unexpectedly passed away, his father suffered a heart attack in the stands during the game at Duke. Remarkably, Sean remained poised and nearly led the Buckeyes to a win. Thankfully, all is well with his father, and he was able to be in attendance for his 1,000th point.
