Ohio State Fourth in Initial LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Standings

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Department of Athletics sits comfortably among the top programs in the nation with a fourth-place showing in the initial LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings for athletic program excellence. Less than 70 points separate the top four institutions in the standings which include the NCAA results for fall sports.
LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup Fall Standings
- North Carolina, ACC – 382.5 points
- Stanford, Pac-12 – 330
- BYU, WCC – 314.5
- Ohio State, B1G – 313
- Syracuse, ACC – 310.50
Five sports contributed points toward Ohio State’s total, led by the football team’s 80 points and fourth-place finish. Women’s volleyball finished fifth and contributed 73 points with women’s cross country contributing 60 points with its 15th-place finish at the NCAA championships. The men’s and women’s soccer programs each qualified for their respective NCAA tournaments, finished 17th and added 50 points apiece to Ohio State’s total.
Ohio State is one of only two athletic departments from the Big Ten Conference to be among the Top 15 teams: Penn State is sixth with 309 points.
LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup rankings that include the winter sports will be announced in early April. The final standings will be announced in June.
Last year, Ohio State finished in fourth-place overall and had 11 teams with Top 10 Directors’ Cup national rankings: women’s hockey (No. 1), men’s tennis (No. 3), football (No. 5), fencing (No. 5), men’s gymnastics (No. 5), rowing (No. 8), women’s volleyball (No. 9), women’s basketball (No. 9), women’s swimming and diving (No. 9), men’s swimming and diving (No. 9) and men’s lacrosse (No. 9).
