COLUMBUS, Ohio – Week in and week out, Buckeye student-athletes raise the standard of excellence set at Ohio State, whether that be in competition, in the classroom or in the community. ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ recognizes student-athletes who had noteworthy accomplishments both in contests and beyond the box score.
Here are this week’s ‘Buckeye Spotlight’ student-athletes:
2022-23 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
- Last week, 34 student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
- SAAC consists of representatives from Ohio State varsity sports, acting as the voice of the student-athlete body.
- The committee has an active executive committee that aims to lead discussions in support of current student-athlete topics and issues that are affecting student-athletes here at Ohio State.
- The purpose of SAAC is to 1) Provide advice and guidance to athletic administrators; 2) Solicit student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation; 3) Suggest potential NCAA legislation; 4) Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide or conference-wide committees; and 5) Act as a liaison between student-athletes, faculty, administrators and staff.

Addie Engel | Women’s Cross Country | Jr. | Springfield, Ohio
- Addie Engel won the Buckeyes’ season-opening meet for the second year in a row, as she crossed the finish line first at the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic hosted by Wright State Friday in Fairborn, Ohio.
- Engel was one of six Buckeyes in the Top 7, as Ohio State claimed the team title.
- She finished the 5K in a time of 17:23.5 (5:37/mile), more than four seconds ahead of second place. It was her second collegiate 5K, with her previous best 17:34.8 in the first race last season.
- Engel was the first Buckeye across the finish line in all six team races she ran last year and continued that streak to kick off 2022. She earned all-conference and all-region honors last year and was an NCAA individual qualifier.
The Buckeyes opened the season winning the men's and women's team titles in Dayton tonight.
Addie Engel was first, as the women took six of the Top 7 spots, and the men had five in the Top 12.

Parker Grinstead | Men’s Soccer | Jr. | West Chester, Ohio
- Parker Grinstead gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead with a goal midway through the first half Monday vs. Wright State.
- It was his first score since his freshman campaign (span of 24 games) when he totaled three goals, the last coming vs. Michigan in a 2-all draw March 15, 2021.
- He took a team-high four shots vs. Wright State, with two landing on net.
- The Buckeyes are currently undefeated with a 3-0-1 record, which includes three-consecutive shutouts.

Xavier Johnson | Football | Grad. | Cincinnati, Ohio
- Xavier Johnson wanted to be a Buckeye, so he declined scholarship offers to play elsewhere to walk on to the team in 2018.
- Now in his fifth season with the team, Johnson is now on scholarship and is a critical member of the wide receiver room and on four special teams units.
- Saturday, he scored Ohio State’s go-ahead touchdown in the 21-10 win over Notre Dame, catching a 24-yard TD pass from C.J. Stroud with 12 seconds to play in the third quarter.
- On the very next play, he tackled a Notre Dame kickoff returner at the 13 yard line to electrify the crowd heading into the fourth quarter.
- He earned Ohio State’s special teams player of the week honor in the same game he scored his first collegiate touchdown.

Delaney Lawler | Field Hockey | Sr.| Moorestown, N.J.
- Delaney Lawler doesn’t always put up the biggest stat line on a boxscore, but on Sunday she helped the Ohio State field hockey team do something it’s never done before.
- As one of the most experienced defensive players of the roster, Lawler and the Buckeyes earned their third consecutive shutout to start the 2022 season.
- Never before in the 52-year history of the program has Ohio State registered three shutouts to start a season.
- With Lawler leading the defense, Ohio State limited Lehigh last Sunday to just six total shots and one on goal.
- Lawler did get into the act of offense, assisting on the game’s first goal via a penalty corner.
- A communication major, Lawler has started 54 of 55 games in her career.
Ohio State is the team in the country that is yet to give up a goal this season.

Emily Londot | Women’s Volleyball | Jr. | Utica, Ohio
- Emily Londot led the Buckeye offense at the Cardinal Classic last weekend, earning herself a spot on the all-tournament team as Ohio State recorded its first top-three win against a non-conference opponent in program history.
- Londot averaged 4.86 kills per set throughout the weekend and also averaged 2.14 digs per set as she totaled at least 10 kills in both matches (keeping her streak of every match of the season alive) and earned her second double-double of the season.
- Londot totaled 15 kills, 12 digs and two service aces to help end No. 3 Louisville’s 24-match home win streak. Her second service ace was for match point. Against No. 15 San Diego, Londot recorded a season-best 19 kills in just three sets.
- She was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week for her efforts.

Emma Maltais | Women’s Hockey | Grad. | Burlington, Ont.
- Emma Maltais and Team Canada win gold at the 2022 IIHF Women’s World Championships Sunday in Herning, Denmark.
- The forward recorded one goal and two assists in the tournament to help the team to its second consecutive world championship gold medal, and first back-to-back gold at the event since 2001.
- Maltais has won three gold medals with the Canadian national team in the last year, including world championship gold in 2021 and Olympic gold at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
- The 2020 Ohio State graduate returns to the Buckeye roster this fall for her final year of eligibility after centralizing with Team Canada during the 2021-22 season.

Caley McGinty | Women’s Golf | R-Jr. | Bristol, England
- Caley McGinty was the only Big Ten golfer named to The ANNIKA Award Preseason Watch List, announced Sept. 1 by the Haskins Foundation. The ANNIKA Award is given annually to the top female collegiate golfer in the United States.
- McGinty, who enters her first season with the Buckeyes, was also selected as a Big Ten Preseason Golfer to Watch, announced by the conference on Aug. 31.
- She is currently ranked sixth in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), which is the highest ranking of her career so far.
- McGinty most recently competed on Team England in the 2022 World Amateur Team Championships held in France Aug. 24-27. She tied for 16th place.
- Over the summer, McGinty also helped Team England win the 2022 European Ladies’ Team Championships and she competed in the AIG Women’s Open and the European Ladies’ Amateur Championship.

Peyton McNamara | Women’s Soccer | Jr. | Norwalk, Conn.
- Peyton McNamara tallied a pair of wonderful goals in the Buckeye’s 4-0 victory at Dayton.
- She recorded the first from 18 yards out and the second from 25 yards out as both goals were tucked nicely inside the left post.
- Coming off a being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2020, she played in only five games last season due to a leg injury.
- She trained with the Jamaican Senior National Team this summer and has returned to form this fall.
- The two goals last week were her first two goals since scoring in the NCAA Tournament game against Santa Clara in May of 2021. It was also the third two-goal game of her career.
