COLUMBUS, Ohio – Lisa Strom, who is starting her second year as the women’s golf coach at Ohio State, will begin a two-year term (2022-24) as the president of the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Wednesday.
Strom served as the Division I Director of the WGCA in 2020-21 and then served as the WGCA Vice President last year (2021-22). She will remain on the board of directors as a past president from 2024-26.
“What a great honor it is to serve as the next President of the WGCA,” Strom said. “Following in the footsteps of so many colleagues that I respect is a huge responsibility. I am passionate about growing our organization and the sport of women’s golf and I look forward to working with our membership and Board of Directors as we continue to evolve with the ever-changing landscape of college athletics.
“Thank you to Angie Ravioli-Larkin for her leadership as President through the pandemic over the past two years,” Strom said. “Despite many uncertainties, she led with her heart and always kept the best interest of the organization at the forefront when making decisions. Thank you to Todd Oehrlein for his service on the board. We are grateful for his wisdom and thoughtfulness while leading the WGCA.
“I look forward to serving alongside a dynamic Board of Directors,” Strom said. “I appreciate their willingness to dedicate their time to making our organization better and stronger.”
In her first season as head coach of the Buckeyes in 2022, Strom led Ohio State back to NCAA postseason competition, to a third-place (T) finish in the Big Ten Championship and the team title in the 2022 Lady Buckeye Invitational. Ohio State finished among the Top 9 in seven of 10 tournaments in 2021-22, including the last four of the spring season.
The Buckeyes earned an at-large selection to the 2022 NCAA Championships, playing in the Ann Arbor Regional.
Strom was a member of the Ohio State women’s golf team from 1995-99 and then returned as an assistant coach from 2011-16 following her professional playing days.
As an assistant for the Buckeyes from 2011-16, Strom helped guide the program to six-consecutive NCAA Regional appearances and four appearances at the NCAA Championships (2011, 2012, 2014, 2016). She also was instrumental in the team’s nine tournament victories, including back-to-back-to-back Big Ten Championships in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
During her OSU playing days, Strom was a two-time All-Big Ten and four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. In 2000, she earned a first-place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championship and was a member of the 1999 Big Ten Championship team. She graduated with a degree in exercise science in 2000.
