COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team is the last remaining unbeaten team in Big Ten play, as the Buckeyes downed Northwestern, 5-2, Friday afternoon in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. The Buckeyes are 6-0 in Big Ten play, with the Wildcats 6-1.
Ohio State is 13-4 overall this season and will close out the weekend with a noon match at Purdue Sunday.
Against Northwestern (11-6), the Buckeyes came from behind after losing the doubles point. Ohio State won five of the six first sets to take control and were able to close all five out. Irina Cantos Siemers, Isabelle Boulais, Sydni Ratliff, Kolie Allen and Luna Dormet all won in singles. Cantos Siemers and Lucia Marzal also paired up for a doubles victory.
Quoting Coach Melissa Schaub
"This win feels good. We knew Northwestern was going to be strong in doubles. I'm proud of the way we came out in singles after dropping a tough doubles point. You can't ask for much more against a good team to win five first sets. That was huge. It was great to have Luna back out there after she missed time with an injury. We are looking forward to Sunday's match against Purdue on the road."
